Emerald Period 2017 Featured Match Write-ups

Postby Momento10 » Tue Sep 12, 2017 3:52 pm

Featured Match previews/descriptions/teasers for ISML matches are needed every round. Anyone in the community is welcome to contribute in any language. Accepted submissions will be displayed on the front page during the voting round and archived on the site afterwards. You may receive cookies when you submit and/or help edit write-ups.

Archived write-ups can be found here for reference: http://2016.internationalsaimoe.com/con ... _index.php

Guidelines
  • You must be fair to all candidates involved. Write in a neutral voice but keep the reader in suspense, too.
  • Writers have a max total of 5 previews per round.
  • 200-word limit for each Regular Season Female preview, Regular Season Male preview, and 1v1 Exhibition preview, regardless of content or style.
  • 300-word limit for each Exhibition 2v2 preview, due to the pairing of contestants.
  • 450-word limit for each Necklace/Pendant and Necklace/Pendant Exhibition preview.
  • Please use the spelling conventions that ISML uses (e.g. with the macrons ō and ū).
  • Because these will be on the front page, appropriateness and quality of writing are extremely important.
  • Please proofread your work from the perspective of a normal visitor; would he or she understand what you wrote?
  • Try to avoid major plot/character spoilers.
  • Unfortunately, not every submission will be featured.
  • And perhaps MOST IMPORTANT, final revisions of the submissions must be turned in, at the latest, at 10:00 GMT--5 hours before the start of each match.

Tips for Writers
  • Beware of long, cumbersome sentences. While many of them are technically correct, with their commas and conjunctions, they often sound very awkward and become difficult to follow after some length. Try to be considerate of your readers and vary up your sentences' lengths to create regular patterns. Read your works out loud and consider how each sentence sounds.
  • Be very careful of using the same words over and over (example: "girl"), and of using the same sentence structures repeatedly (ex: "Girl A blah blah blah blah blah. On the other hand, Girl B blah blah blah"). Avoid repetition and get creative with your descriptions of the contestants, while still remaining true to their characters.
  • Most of all, try to have fun with your writing! If you find yourself in a slump and using the same style repeatedly with no vigor to your work, then take a break. Maybe read a blog entry or something elsewhere to freshen up your language, then try to write on a clean page. If you're forcing yourself and not having fun, then stop. Come back for the next round. If you're having trouble with something, let us know here and someone or multiple "someones" is/are bound to jump in and aid you.
Post your writings here, and Staff will review and consider them. If you have just ideas, but not whole write-ups, that's okay, too! We can all help each other come up with the best paragraphs to introduce our matches. Thank you for helping to improve ISML!

Spoiler for Emerald 1:
Miyamizu Mitsuha (Kimi no Na wa) vs. Isla (Plastic Memories)
The biggest fear these two girls have is to be forgotten by those they care most about. For Miyamizu Mitsuha, she believed that something special must have happened at that particular time to be where she is now. IT was thanks to that moment that she was able to live the life that she always wanted. Yet, deep in her heart, she seeks the answers that grips her heart and makes her ache. Rather than interact with others, Isla chose a passive approach, working for the sake of work and not creating any relationships. She knows that she has an expected shelf life; therefore, she concludes it is best not to get too close to anyone. Despite this, she wants to be with her coworkers more and understand them more, but she believes her departure would hurt them more than her. Which of these girls find it in their heart that they will still be remembered no matter how much time has passed?
Oshino Shinobu (Monogatari Series) vs. Tokisaki Kurumi (Date A Live)
Their past is filled with mysteries; the rumors surrounding them consist of half-truths. Still, neither is willing to say anything about it or try to do anything about it. They choose not to. What could be on the mind of a girl who sits by the corner with eyes as empty as her lack of original strength? She dwells in the shadows, only appearing when her host is in grave danger. Like a heart underneath blades, she strikes with authority and vengeance, yet return to her reserved state as if nothing happened. What are the feelings that swim in the heart of a girl who has seen multiple instances of wrongdoing throughout time? By herself, she is kind and compassionate, but the second she sees evil in the hearts of others, she fires at them without remorse. Like a doll trapped in time, she will not rest until she has enough power to revert time to her own favor. Can either Oshino Shinobu or Tokisaki Kurumi open their hearts to others and ask for assistance before it is too late?
Togashi Yūta (Chūnibyō demo Koi ga Shitai!) vs. Roy Mustang (Fullmetal Alchemist)
The road towards the coveted prize is starting to heat up as these two competitors collide. Togashi Yūta may not want anyone to recall his past, yet the situation around him causes him to return to his persona every now and again. Rather than treat it like a burden, Yūta chose to reinvent himself through his past. That way, he may be able to find the proper balance to interact with those he cares most. Roy Mustang’s passion to succeed and win knows no bounds. He may come off as goofy and reckless, but Roy cares most about his team over everything else. No matter what the situation is, he will try to get everyone out alive. Can the Dark Flame Master successfully incinerate his opponent, or will the Flame Alchemist burn his adversary down first?

Spoiler for Emerald 2:
Takimoto Hifumi (NEW GAME!) vs. Megumin (KonoSuba)
While their personalities cannot be any more different, their dedication to their craft and group ring true in their hearts. Takimoto is a quiet and reserved girl who has a better time revealing her emotions through texts and written words than speech. While she does not speak much, her work in the projects given to her reveal her dedication to make her works a success. When given time to open up, Hifumi becomes a reliable senior and a dear friend to have around to lift one’s spirits. In contrast, Megumin is vocal and more than happy to show how great her magic is to others. Even though she recklessly charges headfirst in battle, Megumin means well, for she wants to prove to herself and others that she can be depended upon in times of need. No matter how grave a situation can get, Megumin bides her time until it is right for the spotlight to shine on her. Who will be able to reach her full potential once all is said and done?

Kanda Sorata (Sakura-sō no Pet na Kanojo) vs. Natsuki Subaru (Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu)
No matter how many times they are taken down, they will find some way to lift up their spirits and start anew. Kanda Sorata wanted to create something special with his time in the arts department, but with so many gifted individuals living in his dorm, he questions his own credibility. Even if he is continuously shown the difference between his ability and his dorm members, it will not stop him from continuing to polish his craft into something none have seen before. Every time Natsuki Subaru reverts back to the days before his penultimate demise, he is tormented with the idea that nothing he can do will prevent the future events from happening. With enough courage, he is willing to roll the die once again for something different to occur in his current time. Who will be able to rely on his strengths once again to achieve a future he desires?

Spoiler for Emerald 3:
Suzukaze Aoba (NEW GAME!) vs. Emilia (Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu)
No matter how difficult a situation may be, Suzukase Aoba and Emilia will find some way to turn the tide to her favor. As a new hire in her company, Aoba wants to make sure she leaves a good impression with the company and get the job done. While she is only assigned to small tasks at first, Aoba believes that, if she can prove her worth, she can be granted larger responsibilities. Aoba may make a lot is mistakes and fix multiple corrections in her work, but she will see her projects through to the end. Emilia was already at a disadvantage to become the new ruler of her country due to her appearance. No matter how many times she tried to help her people, all fear her very existence. Still, she continues to help out in any way she can, even if there is no reward for her or her goals. Who will be able to continue forward as the pressure continues?

Makise Kurisu (Steins;Gate) vs. Konno Yūki (Sword Art Online)
Those who use their time aimlessly are using it incorrectly. Makise Kurisu may claim that she does not believe in science fiction, but that has not stopped her from discussing the possibility of it in the internet. Kurisu is more interested in the facts that can make something true or not than dwell into rumors and assumptions. Therefore, she is usually seen researching diligently about any subject that piques her interest, be it real or fantasy. Konno Yūki can usually be found under a certain tree, waiting for the next challenger to come her way. She seeks someone who can surpass her skill, believing that that person’s strength may guide her to the destination she desires. Until then, Yūki will continue to fight as though her life is on the line. Who will be able to obtain what she seeks before time runs out?

Spoiler for Emerald 4:
Isla (Plastic Memories) vs. Miyazono Kaori (Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso)
The power to life every moment as if it is the last is what continues to drive these girls forward. Isla may have a limited time to work until her system shuts down, but that will not distract her from her work. She knows that there are many people like her and many friends who would do anything to keep that person by their side. For this, she will continue to work to her fullest to make sure everyone leaves with a smile. The fire in her heart to play like it is her last moment will not vanish in Miyazono Kaori. She will only let others judge her by how capable she is with what is handed to her. Instead, she will play the music her way, regardless of what others think of her. Who will continue to shine until her last moment?

Illyasviel von Einzbern (Fate Series) vs. Yoshino (Date A Live)
They are shrouded in show, looking out towards the blizzard, wondering if there is anything of worth beyond the cold. Do not let be fooled by Illyazviel von Einzbern size and stature. She is as hungry about winning the war and obtaining the grail as everyone else. Her desire for revenge is a bottomless pit, and she will do everything in her power to make sure those who try to cross her path will know the fear that is her desire and her servant. Yoshino cannot trust those who lay beyond the blizzard. It seemed as though everyone outside is trying to attack her, even though all she seeks is peace. If the people outside continue to torture her like this, she may have no choice but to retaliate in kind, and she will make them taste the cold welcome they gave her. Which of these two competitors will not be left out in the cold?

Spoiler for Emerald 5:
Natsuki Subaru (Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu) vs. Yukihira Sōma (Shokugeki no Sōma)
No matter how difficult a situation may be, these two guys will find some way to get out of the predicament. People may be suspicious of Natsuki Subaru knowing more than he should, but that does not stop him from trying to change history. He has already been in this situation too many times to know what happens next. If he can prevent it in some way that makes everyone he knows and loves unharmed, he will be satisfied. People may see Yukihira Sōma as reckless, but that does not stop him from trying to put his opponent’s words back inside his or her mouths. He cannot stand how people assume things by appearance and status rather than following the rules and tasting the dishes. If people continue to look down on him, he will show them that they are messing with the wrong person once he gets serious. Who will be able to survive this predicament unharmed?

Katsuragi Keima (Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai) vs. Iskandar (Fate Series)
There can be only one true conqueror in this battle for conquest. Katsuragi Keima may be able to grab all of the 2D girl’s hearts, but when it comes to 3D, he shows no interest. Only when he unknowingly accepts a contract regarding contact with such girls does he have no choice but to feign interest. As long as he treats the real life world like a game simulation, he is sure to be able to complete the current route. Iskander’s desire to take over the world knows no limits. As a man who seeks more land, it is only natural for him to learn everything there is to know about those countries and settlements, be it geography or politics. As a ruler, he does not want to govern people with an iron fist, but with a code of honor and belief that they will be able to walk away any battle unharmed. Who will be able to conquer the other?

Spoiler for Emerald 6:
Sakura Chiyo (Gekkan Shōjo Nozaki-kun) vs. Suzukaze Aoba (NEW GAME!)
Artists in their own right, Sakura Chiyo and Suzukaze Aoba will square off to see who the better artist is. Chiyo may be a well-rounded artist, but no amount of skill could get her to properly confess to the boy that she likes. Now working as that boy’s manga assistant, Chiyo passes the time working on various parts of his upcoming works. If this would allow her to be one step closer to him romantically, Chiyo will do whatever it takes to make this chance work. Aoba is taking her first step at transforming her passion to work as she works at a gaming studio. While the tasks seem miniscule and minimal at first, Aoba takes every task seriously and makes sure that the final details are perfect. The days may be long, but with good coworkers by her side, Aoba is sure to end the day on a high note. Who will be able to draw the path towards victory?

Satō Kazuma (KonoSuba) vs. Gilgamesh (Fate Series)
Who said that all battles need to be fought fairly? With Satō Kazuma, he is more than happy to use every trick in the book necessary if it means getting away from a situation with his head intact. Many times has he needs to clean the aftermath of his guild member’s mess, but he will make sure to have the last laugh. No matter how powerful or calculating the opponent may be, Kazuma’s wit and gut will take him to victory. Gilgamesh is more than happy looking down on his opponent than participating in a meaningless battle with an obvious outcome. When the situation is necessary, he will call out his array of weapons and obliterate his opponent without a trace. For Gilgamesh, everything that he fancies is his, and he will stop at nothing to get what he believes is his. Who will be able to walk out of this match victorious when all is said and done?

Spoiler for Emerald 7:
Rem (Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu) vs. Miyamizu Mitsuha (Kimi no Na wa)
Even if all else fails, as long as they believe that something will happen, they will continue to fight. For a long time, Rem felt that she had no place in a world where everyone looks down on her. Now with a home and a group of people she can genuinely call friends, Rem is more than ready to fight for what she feels is the right thing to do. She will not let anyone destroy the sanctuary she has long built to call home. Miyamizu Mitsuha wanted to leave everything behind so she can be in a place where she would not be chained by tradition and politics. When disaster looms over her town, it is up to her to protect her home at all cost. Even if people doubt her or are concerned with where she obtained her knowledge, she will continue to push her will onto others. Who will be able to walk away with her head held high?

Spoiler for Emerald 8:
Megumin (KonoSuba) vs. Saber (Fate Series)
In a classic battle between magic and sword, Megumin and Saber will clash to see who the better competitor is. Megumin claims to be the strongest archwizard in the world, as she is the master of the most powerful spell in the world. Ready to take action and show off her skill, Megumin is more than happy to explain why her craft is something most, if not all, should learn. While a single use of the spell drains all of her energy, as long as attack makes contact with her adversary, she is content. The blade that Saber carries is not just a weapon, but an oath. She will fight for her people and lead them to the victory and salvation they desire. The power that she holds may be more of a burden disguised as a gift, but if there is anything she can do to correct the mistakes that she has made, Saber will take those chances. Can Megumin send her opponent away with her explosive magic, or will Saber cut her way to victory?

Of these eight contestants, who will be able to showcase that she can help others the most?
