Re: ISML 2017 Spring Seasonal Tournament - General Discussio

Postby progheal » Thu Sep 07, 2017 6:46 pm

I have a question about the VP calculation in necklace matches.

In winter seasonal, there are two matches scheduled in Aquamarine necklace: Tōru vs Toyama Kasumi and Adagaki Aki vs Mash Kyrielight.
According to the spreadsheet, these four contestants have VP of 1.488248, 0.339209, 0.76656, 1.029915 respectively in this match, suggesting that the average votes in this match is 1872.
By trying different average counting, this 1872 is most likely to be the average of the votes in the last round of the necklace and pendant matches and all four 1v1 matches:
(2371+1733+1817+1346+2786+635+1435+1928+2587+1494+1472+2860)/12 = 1872

In spring seasonal, there are four matches scheduled in Amethyst necklace:
Izumi Sagiri vs Gennai Ao, RyuZU vs Maya Mikuri, Sistine Fibel vs Sōma Sumire, and Mizuno Akane vs Kōsaka Akane.
Their VP in this match according to spreadsheet are 2.479576, 0.351515, 1.646726, 0.203719, 1.880403, 0.327548, 1.107471, 1.218318 respectively.
This suggests that the average votes in this match is about 1001.381.
But the formula found above does not produce this average value:
(1582+1478+1206+1277+2483+352+1649+204+1883+328+1109+1220)/12 = 1230.916667
Instead, this average value appears to be also counting all wildcard votes:
(1582+1478+1206+1277+(1004+1011+1108+...+1281+949)+(751+857+716+...+753+698)+2483+352+1649+204+1883+328+1109+1220)/42 = 1001.380952

So which formula is the correct one for the VP calculation in necklace matches?
Since the base value produced by the later formula is lower, these eight contestants will have higher VP compare to the former formula,
and can affect the selection of one-win contestants to first 16 and/or seeding;
One immediate observation is that Kōsaka Akane now have enough CVP to advance with the later formula,
while with the former formula, she only have 0.991131 VP in this match, a total of 1.774209 is not higher than Sakuragi Hinako 1.855672.

Thank you for pointing out the error in the average vote for value calculation in the Amethyst Necklace match. Sakuragi Hinako will replace Kōsaka Akane and is now the 16th seed in the Spring Seasonal Elimination.

Sorry for nitpicking again, but now Hinako is in the matchup, there is another problem with seeding:
In winter seasonal, seed order is determined solely by CVP, but it looks like now the number of wins also affects seeding. According to spreadsheet, Sakuragi Hinako have higher CVP than Meteora Österreich, so Sakuragi Hinako shouldn't be 16th seed.

We decided to use wins before cvp for the spring seasonal, due to high irregularities in certain matches. Winter seasonal had less irregularities, thus we felt we could trust CVP.
