Preliminaries have begun!

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

The wait is over! Voting for Phase I, Round 1, Day 1 is now open.

http://www.internationalsaimoe.com/voting/

We mentioned that the four rounds of Phase I will be split into six days. Day 1 will cover the first 9 Groups for Round 1. On Tuesday, Day 2, we will have voting for Groups 10-14 of Round 1 as well as Groups 1-5 of Round 2. This keeps the amount of groups at 9 or 10 per day.

The voting page may still seem a little long compared to last year’s, but we just have that many eager Candidates hoping to enter the ISML main tournament. :) Good luck to everyone!

Thanks also to maglor who provided featured match descriptions on the front page. We wanted to have a little discussion/promotion on matches that we found particularly interesting today; however, system-wise, they are not any more important than all the other matches today. Please be sure to vote in all of them!

Voting will stay open for 24 hours. After polls close, we will have results ready on the front page in 12 hours.

Preliminary groups released

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

We have released the groupings for Phase I of the Preliminary Period. See them on the front page or here.

Phase I will be a round-robin tournament in each of the 14 groups. Each Candidate will face two other Candidates in the group per Round. This will take 4 Rounds to complete, but we’re spreading the matches out over 6 days to make it a bit easier on everyone.

Phases II and III will have different groupings. Please review our Charter or the Rules FAQ for more details.

The emblems next to each Candidate are representations of the series or franchises in which she is involved. They serve a greater role in our Space Opera project, a community-run “unofficial storyline” of sorts for ISML. More information on this may be available later if we continue to pursue the idea; for now you can view or join in on the brainstorming on our Forum.

Additionally, we have an ISML Fantasy competition going on in the Forum. If you think you’re good at predicting the winners of each round, come join us!

Another planned downtime

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

Last month I mentioned that our hosting provider might be down for a few hours for maintenance. It turns out that never happened; it was instead delayed to this coming week.

Sometime between the 16th and the 21st, our site will be down for 20 to 90 minutes between the hours of 0600 GMT and 1500GMT. That’s during bedtime in the western hemisphere, so it might have already happened. But in case it hasn’t, this is a notice primarily for our eastern-hemisphere viewers. We won’t be gone long; our provider says the maintenance should reduce further the risks of downtime.

Fortunately we don’t have any events scheduled until the 31st, so this is a good time for our host to get all their maintenance finished.

In League news, we’ll be releasing groupings for Preliminary Phase I at the end of the week. The Rules FAQ has been updated to explain Phase I a little bit in case you are short on time to read our full Charter.

Nomination totals released

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

We’re now releasing the nomination totals for characters who received 18 or more nominations.

http://www.internationalsaimoe.com/statistics/noms.php

Over 350 characters received fewer than 18 nominations. There may be a margin of error of 1 or 2 for the characters with 18 or 19 nominations, as that’s where we stopped triple-checking values. The top 118 we can definitely confirm.

New PV for 2010

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

The front page has a new PV, thanks to our KholdStare. The excitement of 2010 continues.

The ISML 2009 Double Elimination PV and the ISML 2009 Regular Season PV are still online if you missed them.

Nomination totals will be released later this week. We’re still finalizing preliminary groupings and getting the voting page set up, so stay tuned for more updates!

New Candidates Announced

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

The list of characters who advance from the Nomination Period are now posted on the front page. In addition, version 1 of our Contestants page is online at http://www.internationalsaimoe.com/contestants/ and is also accessible from the menu bar up top. The voting arena has been removed temporarily while we prepare for the Preliminary Period.

The Contestants page lists our 16 Contestants already in the Regular Season and our 126 Candidates who will participate in the preliminary rounds. Character profiles will be available soon.

Nomination totals will be released at a later date. Groupings for Phase I of the Preliminary Period will be released at a later date as well. Round 1 begins on 31 January.

Congratulations to the winners!

More donations

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

The League thanks zmjhgvn and Seishi for their donations this week. As always, we are forever grateful. Thank you for helping keep this tournament alive and making it a part of your lives, too.

Nomination processing is moving ahead of schedule; we’ll be done early and could release the list of winners tomorrow or Monday. Stay tuned!

Nominations are over

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Seven days have passed; nominations are now closed. We had a record-breaking number of submissions (well over 1000)! Thanks to everyone who visited and spread the news; we’re definitely excited about this turnout.

It’s time to count everything up, do some translations on our foreign-language ballots, validate the characters and series, and then get results released. We’ll ballpark it at one week, but it might be sooner than that.

Thanks again for helping to make ISML the best tournament it can be.

Few days left to nominate

Monday, January 4th, 2010

It’s Monday again and back to work for most of us after a nice Christmas + New Year’s break. Nominations have been steadily coming in since day one, and we’re excited. We’ve already surpassed our total number of submissions from last year, too, so our continuing growth is evident. The page will stay open until the end of January 7, so there’s still plenty of time to nominate and spread the word about ISML.

We expect to have results within a week after nominations close, and Round 1 of Preliminaries will start on January 31. More details to come.

Korean 한국어 FAQ

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

If you speak Korean, our own maglor is hosting an informal Q&A session to help explain the Nomination Phase and other rules of ISML. Thanks, maglor!
