Nomination Results Released

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

Nomination results for ISML 2012 are now on the main page! (Later onwards, they will be archived here.) Congratualations to the girls who advance to the Preliminary Period. The playing field is slightly larger than last year’s, and the introduction of the two Divisions in 2012 will certainly make things interesting!

Reported totals are exact for characters with at least 30 nominations. Below that, we expect a margin of error of 1 or 2. We do not have plans to release names who recorded fewer than 25 nominations.

Thanks to all our voters for participating and for your patience while we tallied the results. Voting will begin on February 12 with the start of the Preliminary Period. Until then, we make preparations with not only the new tournament format but also with graphics for all of our Candidates. If you would like to help us out, please join us on the forum!

Groupings for Prelim, Phase I, will be released soon. Look forward to another great ISML season!

Phase I completed

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

Congratulations to the Phase I winners! We now have our first set of Contestants for the ISML 2011 Regular Season. You can view their profiles at our Contestants page. Biographies are available in English and Chinese. We do not yet have portraits for our newest characters; we are working on them right away and apologize for the delay.

It’s been quite a busy week as we transition from Phase I to II with no break in between. Up next is a single-elimination tournament with brackets of 8. Also on the Contestants page at the bottom is the bracket list for our remaining 128 Candidates. They each face new competitors than in Phase I. May the best girl win! Sixteen more Regular Season Contesants will be known by the end of next week. We will have bracket images prepared soon, too, to help you visualize the tournament bracket more easily.

Thanks to all the voters, our community, and supporters. We received one donation last week; thanks to leekinghin for the gift. No matter how large or small, each contribution helps pay our server costs for future years of ISML. As of right now, 2011 is paid for, and we are about $80 into the $350 cost for 2012.

The first day of voting for Phase II starts soon; please look forward to it!

Preliminaries to begin sooner

Monday, February 21st, 2011

Phase I of the Preliminary Period will now begin on Sunday, 27 February.

We extended the number of voting days from 6 to 8 in order to organize the arenas a little better. Our pool of Candidates this year is larger than in 2010 as well, so adding more days makes for better pacing of the 4 Rounds in Phase I. So Sunday will feature Groups 1 through 8. Tuesday will be Groups 9 through 16. And then on Thursday will be Round 2, beginning again with Groups 1 through 8.

The Charter will be appended, and our event calendar on the Rules FAQ has been updated.

We have not completed all of our character portraits (avatars), so they will be missing for the time being. They should be ready by this weekend and definitely by Sunday when the voting round begins.

The groupings for Phase I are also released. Candidates in each group will participate in a round-robin tournament of 1vs1vs1 matches. Points are earned for first and second place in each match. Group winners advance to the Regular Season while the remaining girls enter Phase II.

Voting rounds are now less than a week away!

Preliminary Period over

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

With the close of Phase III, we are finished with the Preliminaries! Congratulations to our final six Contestants. Our 50-character roster is now full, and the Regular Season is ahead.

We’ll be taking a break for two weeks to [recuperate and] get everything set up for the kickoff on March 21. It shall be an exciting year, full of great matches and races for the necklaces and then the 16 spots for the postseason double-elimination tournament.

While you wait, please visit our forums and join in the Fantasy league among other discussions. Our IRC chatroom needs some new life, too…

More website updates to come throughout the break, too.

Phase III under way

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

First off, a thank you to zmjhgvn for his fourth donation of the year!

Round 1 is now over in Phase III; we’ve had to say farewell to several (56) Candidates. We wish them luck next year, and perhaps some of them may make an appearance in exhibition matches throughout the season.

In the final round tomorrow, we’ve grouped the remaining 42 Candidates into groups of 7 again. Except this time you may select only one (1) character from each group. The winner of each group will continue into the Regular Season while the rest will be sent home. This may be one of the most challenging matches yet!

Also we hope you have enjoyed the extra Seeding rounds this week. We discovered that we don’t quite have enough data yet on our current Contestants, so these extra matches have been a great help to us. The final round tomorrow will feature two Seeding arenas instead of one; we appreciate your help!

Phase II over

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

Congratulations to our 14 new Contestants! Our roster is nearly complete — only six more slots are left.

Phase III will begin on Sunday. The remaining Candidates have been placed into 14 groups of 7. Sunday will feature Groups 1-7 and Tuesday will feature Groups 8-14. You will be able to vote for up to two Candidates per group.

The top 3 winners in each group will advance to the second (and final) round on Thursday. Everybody else will be eliminated. Thursday’s round will consist of 6 groups of 7, and you will vote for just one Candidate in each group. The winners will be our final set of Contestants.

In addition to Phase III we need a little more seeding data for our 14 new Contestants. So the third and fourth round of Seeding will take place on Sunday and Tuesday in the form of an 8th arena on the ballot. Please vote for up to two Contestants in this arena as well. The data will help us write the schedule for the Regular Season.

Thanks for voting in ISML!

Site updates and donations

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

Third post of the night! :P Make sure you read all three news posts.

Some initial Phase II information is available on the preliminaries homepage. What you can view are the brackets (courtesy of melange) for Phase II’s single-elimination tournament starting Thursday. More tables will be available later in the week.

Despite the tournament being called “elimination,” the Candidates who do not win Phase II still get one last chance in Phase III.

All Phase I results have been moved to this page in the Statistics realm.

Finally we take a moment to recognize and thank our latest donors — Vincent Valentine Chang (a.k.a. Newgunden) from Taiwan, zmjhgvn from Germany (repeat donor), and shinz_zhu from Canada (repeat donor). Your generosity is amazing, and our appreciation shall grow to match it.

Revised Phase III, Aquamarine delayed

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

In addition to the seeding tournament mentioned in the previous news entry, the other changes to the Charter this weekend include a rewrite of Phase III and the resulting delay of the Regular Season by one week.

Some difficulty in programming the original Phase III proposal had arisen (though its organization was perhaps a little confusing or even overly ambitious), so we have devised an alternate plan for the final preliminary phase — one that still retains balance and gives our less fortunate Candidates a few final shots at making it into the Regular Season.

Instead of a free-for-all pool, we will organize the remaining (98) Candidates into groups again for Round 1, but it will be just one match in which you can vote for up to two girls per group/arena. The top 3 winners from each group (total of 42) advance to Round 2 where they are grouped again for a single match. Here is where we decide our final 6 Contestant slots.

The Phase III revision requires two extra days on the Preliminary schedule. And because we still need some preparation time for Regular Season, Aquamarine will be pushed back one week. The Regular Season will start on 21 March instead of 14 March. (Also, the last round of Phase II and the first round of Phase III won’t occur on the same day like on the old plan. Things will be much better separated.)

Thank you, everyone, for your understanding. There’s still a lot more excitement to come.

Phase I concludes; seeding tournament next

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

Congratulations to Holo, Nadeko, Mei, Konata, Minatsu, Rika, Ami, Ruiko, and Mikoto for advancing to the Regular Season!

Now they join the rest of the Phase I winners in a game with our 16 auto-qualified Contestants — the seeding tournament is coming up next. We need some pre-ranking data prior to the Regular Season, so this two-day event will help us figure that out. In Round 1, you will see the 30 Contestants split into five groups. Your job is to vote for up to 2 of them. Yes, two.

Round 2 will be the same way but with some of the girls shuffled around — and still two votes maximum per group/arena. The data we get will help us build a fair and balanced Regular Season schedule.

Our charter has been amended to include information about the seeding tournament. There are also extra things to be noted in the next news post.

Round results, donation, voting notice

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Day 2 results are now out. Points and graphs are updated. You can still view Day 1 results on the preliminaries page.

Today we received a second donation from zmjhgvn. Thanks so much for your continued generosity! Our annual fees are roughly $350 per year, so we’re making great progress.

We’re very glad that so many people are participating in our tournament, but we must remind everyone about the rules — most importantly: no cheating.

Specifically, you are allowed only one vote. But we have noticed cases like the above where the rules are clearly not being followed. Multivoting is very obvious and will never be tolerated. Voters will be banned for such abuse. It really doesn’t help your Candidate either.
