Diamond Period concluded

Thursday, October 6th, 2011

Congratulations to Eucliwood for winning the 2011 Diamond Necklace! Despite a 5-2 record, she had a competitive SDO rating; winning the round certainly made it look easy, but Eu has fought hard since her close loss to Nagato Yuki in the Amethyst Showdown. She now gets to take home a Diamond Necklace as a reward.

We are done with the Regular Season! It has been very exciting these past seven Periods; we hope you enjoyed them, too. Preparations for the Postseason are next. We’ll take a few weeks to prepare some new avatars and set up exhibition matches to accompany our Top 16 Contestants. This break period is also an opportunity for me to fix these server issues once and for all. The rush of visits right as results came out tonight knocked us out for a few minutes, but no worries.

The first match is scheduled for Sunday, 30 October. I’ll update again when we have a match preview ready.

Our exhibition winner this Period is Kaname Madoka, who wins the Diamond Anklet. Congratulations! A final exhibition match 7-way with all of the winners this season is planned; more details to come later on.

Thank you for voting and supporting ISML! The donations page will reopen once the postseason starts, as the time to renew our hosting services is coming this month.

We have big plans for ISML 2012 as well. If you visit our Forums, you’ve had sneak peeks at our proposed ideas. A formal charter is expected by mid-December. The staff is working hard to keep ISML fresh but also fair each passing year; we appreciate all of your feedback as well!

Ruby concluded

Saturday, September 10th, 2011

Congratulations to Shana for winning the 2011 Ruby Necklace! Voter support helped her overcome both the one loss from earlier in the Period and the resulting deficit in SDO. It shows that anything is still possible despite the challenges. To some fans, this particular win comes after very long wait.

Only Diamond Period remains in the Regular Season. One more Necklace is left to claim, and we’ve had many deserving candidates in all of our Necklace Showdowns so far. Who will end up on top? And if you notice the statistics, we still have two undefeateds in the overall standings. Kanade and Mikoto will meet very soon, and it’s a match you don’t want to miss in the upcoming weeks.

Nine Contestants have clinched the Postseason, and we draw closer to knowing all of our Top 16 with each passing Round. Those on the bubble (not yet highlighted in red) still have a chance to battle for a spot. We wish all of our girls the best of luck!

We are on break again until next Sunday, the 18th. Match previews will be available soon.

Our exhibition winner this Period is Illyasviel von Einzbern, who wins the Ruby Medallion. Congratulations! Illya just missed the Regular Season this year after two winning seasons in 2009 and 2010. We’re happy to see her still competing well.

Thank you for voting! We’ll see you next week!

Emerald Concluded

Thursday, August 18th, 2011

Congratulations to Aisaka Taiga for winning the 2011 Emerald Necklace! The Regular Season is starting to wind down, and time is running out to secure a spot in the Top 16 for the Postseason. On our overall rankings table, those Contestants highlighted in red unfortunately have missed the opportunity this year; however, we still wish the best of luck for them in securing wins in the remaining 14 rounds. At this point, nobody at the top of the list is locked into the Top 16, though it is estimated to happen around Ruby 4.

Voting for Ruby Period, Round 1 will begin on Tuesday, August 23. Match previews will be available on Sunday. Two Necklaces remain as the competition gets more fierce.

Our exhibition winner this Period is Remilia Scarlet, who wins the Emerald Ring. Congratulations! Ruby and Diamond Period exhibitions will feature new faces in all Rounds.

Thank you for voting!

A new Sapphire Period champion

Saturday, July 23rd, 2011

Congratulations to Gokō Ruri for winning the 2011 Sapphire Necklace! Like in Amethyst, we had another close match with very exciting results. Thanks to our creative staff as always for designing our posters on such short notice after results are fully tallied.

We’re past halfway in the Regular Season, and three Necklaces remain before the final tournament for the Heavenly Tiara. With the conclusion of Sapphire Period, we take a short break until Emerald Period on Sunday, July 31. Match previews will be available by the end of this coming week.

Our exhibition winner this Period is Shiomiya Shiori, who wins the Sapphire Amulet. Congratulations! And the voting results were very nice for our other exhibition arenas as well; we hope you’ve been enjoying the themed groupings.

Thank you again for all your votes and support for ISML.

Amethyst Concluded

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

Congratulations to Nagato Yuki for winning the 2011 Amethyst Necklace! She joins Shana as the second Contestant to defend a Necklace after winning it the previous year. It was a close battle between her and Eucliwood, but there can be only one victor in the end. Best of luck to Eu and all of our other Contestants in the matches to come! There are many Necklaces remaining, and the coveted Heavenly Tiara is also still out there for the taking. Amethyst Period is concluded, and we have a short break until Sapphire Period on Wednesday, July 5. Previews for the first round can be expected by the end of the coming weekend.

Our exhibition winner this Period is Kagura from Gintama, who wins the Amethyst Brooch. Congratulations!

Thank you for all your votes, support, and donations. We are nearing the halfway point of the Regular Season, and things couldn’t be more exciting.

Topaz Necklace Awarded

Saturday, June 4th, 2011

Congratulations to Tachibana Kanade for winning the 2011 Topaz Necklace! Topaz Period is concluded, and we have a week break until Amethyst Period on Sunday, June 12. The Amethyst 1 match preview is expected to be ready by Wednesday.

Our exhibition winner this Period is Kinomoto Sakura, who wins the Topaz Earrings. Congratulations!

Seitokai voting for Amethyst will begin soon on our forum. Fantasy for Amethyst is planned to change as well.

Phase I completed

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

Congratulations to the Phase I winners! We now have our first set of Contestants for the ISML 2011 Regular Season. You can view their profiles at our Contestants page. Biographies are available in English and Chinese. We do not yet have portraits for our newest characters; we are working on them right away and apologize for the delay.

It’s been quite a busy week as we transition from Phase I to II with no break in between. Up next is a single-elimination tournament with brackets of 8. Also on the Contestants page at the bottom is the bracket list for our remaining 128 Candidates. They each face new competitors than in Phase I. May the best girl win! Sixteen more Regular Season Contesants will be known by the end of next week. We will have bracket images prepared soon, too, to help you visualize the tournament bracket more easily.

Thanks to all the voters, our community, and supporters. We received one donation last week; thanks to leekinghin for the gift. No matter how large or small, each contribution helps pay our server costs for future years of ISML. As of right now, 2011 is paid for, and we are about $80 into the $350 cost for 2012.

The first day of voting for Phase II starts soon; please look forward to it!

Conclusion

Saturday, October 2nd, 2010

Today we crown a new champion of the International Saimoe League, Akiyama Mio!

Congratulations to Mio and a round of applause for runner-up, Misaka Mikoto, who has done very well this year — perhaps better than many have expected. All of our finalists deserve praise. It has been an exciting tournament, and I hope you’ve enjoyed it.

With these results, ISML 2010 now concludes for the year. I thank all our staff for making this event a possibility, and all of you, the voters, too, for participating! Activities for ISML 2011 are not yet scheduled. We also have to define eligibility rules for characters as well; these may change slightly. Just stay tuned to the main page every once in a while for new updates, or subscribe to this blog (via RSS) to get automatic updates. Thank you for all your support and participation, and we’ll see you next year!

Diamond over; Regular Season concludes

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

Congratulations to Shana on winning the Diamond Necklace! This is her third for the year and fifth overall — a record that will be difficult to beat in future years. But the final prize of the Tiara still eludes her; how will Shana fare in the postseason? Fifteen other competitors have the same goal and have the same chance this year.

Now that the regular season is over, the cumulative standings finally have the head-to-head tiebreaker applied. This tiebreaker precedes SDO, which had been the dominant tiebreaker all season long until now. Here, the tie is first broken by the Contestant who won the one-on-one (head-to-head) match between the two who are tied. For example, Suzumiya Haruhi finishes above Sakagami Tomoyo despite having a lower SDO, because she won her match against Tomoyo in Ruby 4.

The effects can compound, as with the case of Fate Testarossa, who drops below both Furukawa Nagisa and Shiina Mafuyu after losing to them in Ruby 3 and Sapphire 4 respectively. Mafuyu ends up on top for her defeat of Nagisa in Topaz 3.

Sometimes a “loop” occurs. Towards the bottom of the rankings, we have Ushio who defeated Nymph (Sapphire 7). But Nymph defeated Chiaki (Aquamarine 1) who then defeated Ushio (Aquamarine 7). Because nobody has the advantage, the tiebreaker is dropped from consideration, and SDO is the next tiebreaker to be applied.

Overall, not too many changes were made as a result of this tiebreaker. It did not play a role in deciding the very last Top 16 slot.

We go on break to prepare for the postseason; congratulations to the Contestants who advanced! We have to say goodbye to the other 34 for now, but many of them are likely to return in the preseason of ISML 2011. Thanks to everyone who has voted and stayed with us so far; we hope you come back soon for the grand finale!
