Do you watch anime in subbed, dubbed or raw?

Post by 10ZHAbin » Mon Oct 12, 2015 6:04 am

I'm guessing most of us watch it by with fansubs but I could be wrong.

subbed, because I am not good enough to watch raw version without language constraint

Once upon a time, it used to be that I would do all I could to find a dubbed anime. This was in my early anime-watching days, so 2006(?)-2008. That pretty much changed overnight, and I remember exactly when and why I switched over to Japanese version with subtitles (but I'm not going to recount that here).

So, for the most part, I watch things subbed.
Sometimes, I'll watch raw then re-watch with subs if I like the series enough. Examples would be Amagi Brilliant Park, Charlotte, and Joukamachi no Dandelion.
I'll only watch the dubbed version (if available) if I'm re-watching the series, and even then it's not a guarantee that I will.

I am always watching subbed anime. I used to look for French subs when I was younger, but now I prefer English subs, because there are less mistakes (or at least I don't see them).

Only times I watch dubs is when I'm watching TV and there is suddenly an episode of Pokémon or something. But French dubs are almost always bad, except in some cases, like Ghibli movies. For any shounen manga though, it's awful.

Kinda surprised the poll is single vote tbh. I personally would select both sub and dub, even though I pretty much strictly watch subbed.
It's easier and more accurate to watch sub than dub, so it's almost a given that sub is the default, but in cases where I'm watching with other people or very specific series (Persona and FMA come to mind) I'll usually go with the dub.
Also, fuck Funimation voice acting. I'd probably give dub a better chance if I didn't want to rip my ears out listening to half of it.

Ok, maybe it's a good idea to make it 3 vote, since people can watch 3 types.

Same here :3

Some french dubs are fun (Hokuto no Ken) and others are just atrocious, sometimes, when they don't understand a sentence from the raw version they put an asian proverb (chinese, most of time) to fill the blank... T_T
Ghibli have good dubs because it's the only japanese animation studio which got respect from occident; it's sad :/

To choose between english and french subs, I pick the first one I find, cause i'm lazy.

I can't understand Japanese, and I swear Funimation has a grand total of 6, so-so, voice actors for their dubs. Its just not enjoyable to watch many shows dubbed, and they come out an indeterminate years after the sub. So I just watch the subs.

Subbed mostly. I used to watch dubs but then I discovered subs and never went back.

Subs in Spanish mostly, except if I feel that the anime is not hard to follow I watch it with English subs just for the sake of practice.
I've watch Death Note in spanish dub, which imo was awesome, also I watch Baccano dubbed in english and I like it too.

When I first watched anime, it was dubbed, now it's always subbed because I have 0 language skills and don't foresee ever being able to learn Japanese well enough to actually watch it raw.
Even the stuff I watched dubbed, I've tried to re-watch subbed to make sure I'm not missing anything from the original language (though I have encountered horribad subbing).

Subbed. Occasionally raw for simple shows which have delays in subs (like back when Acchi Kocchi was airing)

Dubbed, whenever possible (even though it's sometimes horrible). Since only few animes were dubbed (*), I watch subbed anime. In some rare cases also raw (rererewatching or one anime which follows the manga very strict).

(*) Good news for me: To LOVE-Ru will be dubbed in 2016, hopefully before my birthday.

Subbed - by horrible subs mostly.

back in the days I watched with german dubs on RLT 2 (tv channel) (like every other dane)
I never liked danish dub.... its sound horrible (mostly because we only have 6 voice actors)
I dare anyone to watch anime with danish dub... your ears will bleed!
