How you all manage anime collection?

Post by neko » Fri Feb 19, 2010 10:56 am

sup, just wondering the way you all used to manage anime or others type video/drama/movies

actually i have my anime and so on collection...
so it rapidly increased by time, and still thinking what the best way to getting all of these stuff managed well and not messed up.

i can't remember all my collection since im bad in memorize things and sometime i give wrong description about some story @_@ . my friend suggested to me to make list about it so it getting easy to preview some story with my member.

still beginner in listing and now, i have used anime list builder with excel for my listing and collect their information. but lately that software have some problem with certain video format especially with *.mkv and *.rmvb format >_<

it still nice features and user friendly but just want to searching the better way and idea also pro and cons between those way before i went too far with this way... huhu

Well considering that you have a MAL account then I guess you mean to have a list of what you actually own rather than what you watched? In that case I have no idea, as i hardly own any, they're not really released here. But i believe you can also use MAL too keep track of what you got, but it's probably not a very good way to do it as you don't have much options.

I like to keep it simple.
I watch an episode, update MyAnimeList, then dump it on the hard drive of my main computer where it's organized by series.

MAL ftw

and also I prefer .mkv videos because most of 'em are very high quality - HD and that's worth the size (not like some wmv)
Usually I hate rmvb because the quality evokes a feeling of eye-cancer in me^^ but if the specific anime isn't available in any other format I'm fine with it
(since german TV usually sucks and so I wouldn't have anything to watch at all)

I might have just used a bit of memorization and physical labeling before MAL came around. My collection wasn't really that large in high school, and it was all on a shelf stored in a bunch of recorded CD-Rs in labeled and colored disc sleeves. So those labels helped me remember what I had.

When I could afford external hard drives in college, I kept everything organized into folders, so a quick glance down the directory tree would remind me what I had.

MAL has given me the opportunity to list not only anime I own, but anime I've seen. So maybe that's not a convenient way of looking up my collection. ...But we don't really share anime like we used to, I think? At least, a lot of my older anime doesn't come up much in conversation.

about rmvb...
today i always received a mkv and mp4 format but in my old time, most of them in rmvb. i have convert it back to mkv or mp4 but it like hell >_< ... rmvb sometime kills my intention to watch regarding their quality. but for now just a little series that i own in rmvb, the rest have been converted.

I've memorised mine, it helps that I have a really good memory for things I'm interested in.
I do have a MAL account but that is mainly used to find series' that I may be interested in watching.

I used to keep a notepad of all my series, then I used ANN, and now I use MAL. By far my favorite method of keeping track :)

I used to mainly use my memory. But now I also use MAL just in case I forget something.

heh, I just watch the anime and go to the next. :p I don't really keep records except for the ones I really like. I worry most for my original comics and manga anyways. hahaha.

The old-fashion writing-it-down-in-a-notebook is how I do this.
