2017 Aquamarine General Discussion Thread

Post by tehyc » Tue Mar 28, 2017 10:06 pm

This thread is for discussing upcoming matches. There isn't strict limit on what can be posted as long as it is somewhat related to upcoming and potential matches in the future, except for very negative comments/posts about almost anything. Also please refrain from posting too much support materials for a character. A little bit of support post can be tolerated, but any post, that for some reason is deemed to be, or have become, too excessive may be deleted without warning.

So..., Shiina Mashiro for Aquamarine?

Less than four hours until the first match day starts. Increase the hype to see what kind of starting numbers we can get for the first few days.

The "select a language" in voting is not that obvious this year compared to the previous years, and you have to know what "select a language" means to find the place to select. Moreover, after selecting the language the voting page is reloaded, which likely can be a pain for places where the Internet is slow or the ISML page is not easy to be accessed, such as the Mainland.

What you guys are predicting for this period?

I would bet 3850 votes on Arena with most votes (#31) for this first round.
Shana/Accel victory.
Mitsuha being not so strong (compare to what we could expect) and barely winning (51,5% votes) against Eli.
Mashiro having more VF than other girls (not counting ToC), Rin second.
Yukino losing strength compare to last years.
The match I have less faith guessing results is Mumei-Kumiko. *Prays for best girl*

Looking at this most of my predictions were bad lol.

After every character fought in one match, what do you think about potential contestants for necklace?
Best ranked Female by CVPShow
Shiina Mashiro
Tokisaki Kurumi
Rem
Megumin

Yukinoshita Yukino
Saber
Tōsaka Rin
Yūki Asuna
Aisaka Taiga
Makise Kurisu
Takanashi Rikka
Emilia
Tomori Nao
Aqua
Kuroyukihime
Sakura Chiyo
Nakano Azusa
New contestants are pretty expected (Re:zero + Konosuba). However Taiga and Rikka are a bit surprising me here. I guess Mashiro is biggest favorite and that would not surprise me to see Kurumi ending second, again. Rem can do it, but I would prefer a surprise from Megumin ! =3

Aoba? Katou (well, she's not new, but we can consider her new thx to the supposed hype of new season) ? This cannot be classified as expected. This is a sign of the newer contestants under-performing!
We used to have Nova division to help them regain a strong base, but since now it no longer exists, their fans will have to do the hardwork, and the fact that they're not in this list means they haven't done enough. and we haven't done enough to get new voters, but I'll leave that part out since it's not the point I want to make.

Prediction:
I don't know how will the IRV system play out in public. Like: I don't know if the voters will get it that you don't really have to rank everyone, etc.
But the simulation ran by Maglor in Seitokai so far suggested that sympathy votes play bigger role (or, well, in Seitokai case, troll votes and hate votes.)

It's underdogs and non-polarizing character that gets sympathy votes, and the series they come from has to be widely accepted as good.
This would put the likes of Megumin or Asuna or Kurumi in trouble, since their series "are notorious, in either anime community as an overall, or saimoe community exclusively."
This would also put the likes Taiga in a difficult position, too, being a loli violent tsundere + a KugiRie, polarizing fame combo. (sad... I won't mind Taiga winning it, actually. Bcs the poster would be guaranteed to be good + no one will say it's a copy paste.)
Rem... tbh I don't know yet, her fame type. She has hardcore fanbase, yes, but unless you're a hater of ReZero or Emilia fag or a troll stew, you probably "at least won't hate" Rem.
I get a feeling that Rem will be the same type as Mashiro, not really hated but not loved either by the ppl that isn't her fans.
Which means... if people think the battle is between them two, they will more likely get antivote.

Thus the one that applies discretion best, wins. Go harvest dem 2nd or 3rd spot from ppl, folks. (or so if the turnout voters will be big. If it stays like this, it's all faction wars.)

Not so much, when you see their first opponents. Well maybe Taiga a little, since last year for her was a total disaster.

Nah, this is expected. Even when Nova division was around, only top of them were on a level to be able to compete with Stella characters. Each year produces just a few girls that can achieve really great results. This(or Last) year tops are Megumin and Rem. We have also few new characters that are strong, but most likely not strong enough for necklace.
And is worth to notice that 5/21 characters that broke 1000 barrier are completly new, so it's not really that bad.

Also list on stats after just one match never shows full picture. Especially one that is based on CVP.

You definitely only pay attention to ISML.
I had originally say only Rem, Megumin, and Emilia will have a say this year in ISML, but the performance of the likes I mentioned bfr in other Saimoe competitions show they are also sides to be reckoned with.

I would hate it if it's the old statement that's right.

ps.: I agree that 1 match is too soon for CVP, though.

Mentioned? You mean Aoba and Katou. Where did Aoba perform so great, to be consider one of very top?
I don't question Katou, she managed to win one of other Saimoe competitions, but she is last year disappointment, not this one.

Also it's not like they are weak. They both managed to get over 900 votes. They strong, just not strong enough to get into very top.
