2016 Topaz General Discussion Threads

Post by RegalStar » Sat Jul 23, 2016 5:16 pm

This thread is for discussing upcoming matches. There isn't strict limit on what can be posted as long as it is somewhat related to upcoming and potential matches in the future, except for very negative comments/posts about almost anything. Also please refrain from posting too much support materials for a character. A little bit of support post can be tolerated, but any post, that for some reason is deemed to be, or have become, too excessive may be deleted without warning.

It's a bit weird to see Topaz period coming this early.

Hope the winner will be from an above average anime

I also feel a bit weird with Topaz coming this soon, but I guess I'll get used to the new structure of the period set up soon.

There's a lot of contestants that we'll discover the strengh tomorrow.
Ebisuzuwa Kurumi, Kujo Sakurako, Shinobu, Hitagi (will they be boosted by our new voters roster like Nadeko this year?), Shidare Hotaru.

And this Nagato Yuki-Kinomoto Sakura... I don't want to see this, I hope both will qualify but I also hope Shinobu will qualify... *Cry in a corner*

I like everyone to note, though I suspect most people realized already, that we implemented upgraded Vote Checking procedure this year. This might be why we are getting some "interesting" results.

Would we have same amount of votes as last year without this upgrade? ^^;

No, because some of the change is due to structural changes that were somewhat forced upon us. We simply don't have as many characters appearing in a single voting day as we did last year.

Let's review what's written on ISML 2008 homepage:
However, the single elimination tournaments that have made Saimoe ever so popular sometimes result in huge matchups in the early rounds, leaving some contestants walking home with a missed opportunity. Although the random pairings were the only way to determine who goes against whom, questions and speculations arise on whether a girl would have fared a better result had parings been different. Even so, a selected few have passed the challenge of single elimination and emerged victorious.
So... now ISML gives up its original thought and walking on other saimoes' way?

Most of other saimoe let more than half of the contestants be involved in only one match for the year. We are guaranteeing at least three. We wish we could have guaranteed more, but that was considered too much risky when we have to implement much needed upgrades. Next year, minimum number of matches for any contestants will very likely be more than this year.
