Amethyst Period 2020 Featured Match Write-ups

Post by Momento10 » Sun Sep 27, 2020 5:20 am

Featured Match previews/descriptions/teasers for ISML matches are needed every round. Anyone in the community is welcome to contribute in any language. Accepted submissions will be displayed on the front page during the voting round and archived on the site afterwards. You may receive cookies when you submit and/or help edit write-ups.

Archived write-ups can be found here for reference: http://2016.internationalsaimoe.com/con ... _index.php"

Guidelines
  • You must be fair to all candidates involved.
  • Writers have a max total of 5 previews per round.
  • 200-word limit for each Regular Season Female preview, Regular Season Male preview, and 1v1 Exhibition preview, regardless of content or style.
  • 300-word limit for each Exhibition 2v2 preview, due to the pairing of contestants.
  • 450-word limit for each Necklace/Pendant and Necklace/Pendant Exhibition preview.
  • Please use the spelling conventions that ISML uses (e.g. with the macrons ō and ū).
  • Because these will be on the front page, appropriateness and quality of writing are extremely important.
  • Please proofread your work from the perspective of a normal visitor; would he or she understand what you wrote?
  • Try to avoid major plot/character spoilers.
  • Unfortunately, not every submission will be featured.
  • And perhaps MOST IMPORTANT, final revisions of the submissions must be turned in, at the latest, at 5:00 GMT--5 hours before the start of each match.
Tips for Writers
  • Beware of long, cumbersome sentences. While many of them are technically correct, with their commas and conjunctions, they often sound very awkward and become difficult to follow after some length. Try to be considerate of your readers and vary up your sentences' lengths to create regular patterns. Read your works out loud and consider how each sentence sounds.
  • Be very careful of using the same words over and over (example: "girl"), and of using the same sentence structures repeatedly (ex: "Girl A blah blah blah blah blah. On the other hand, Girl B blah blah blah"). Avoid repetition and get creative with your descriptions of the contestants, while still remaining true to their characters.
  • Most of all, try to have fun with your writing! If you find yourself in a slump and using the same style repeatedly with no vigor to your work, then take a break. Maybe read a blog entry or something elsewhere to freshen up your language, then try to write on a clean page. If you're forcing yourself and not having fun, then stop. Come back for the next round. If you're having trouble with something, let us know here and someone or multiple "someones" is/are bound to jump in and aid you.
Post your writings here, and Staff will review and consider them. If you have just ideas, but not whole write-ups, that's okay, too! We can all help each other come up with the best paragraphs to introduce our matches. Thank you for helping to improve ISML!

Otosaka Yū (Charlotte) vs Kingu(Enkidu) (Fate Series)
SpoilerShow
What is their purpose in life? That is the question both of these contestants are trying to figure out. When Otosaka Yū awakened his powers, he was using it for personal gain, such as cheating on tests or gaining the affection of the most popular girl in school. It was not until he transferred to another school that he learned how to use his powers responsibly. Now that he is a member of the student council, Yū uses his power to assist those who were once like him and help them use their powers for good. At first, Kingu thought he was doing the right thing by helping his mother destroy the world they both detest. When her own creations turn on him, Kingu questions which side he should be on and whether or not all that he did was for naught. He seems to remember that he and his opposition were once closer than brothers, yet he cannot understand why he feels that way. Can either of these contestants find the path that he can call his own?
Gilgamesh (Fate Series) vs Azusagawa Sakuta (AoButa)
SpoilerShow
Gilgamesh and Azusagawa Sakuta have different ways to assist people in their time of need. As king, Gilgamesh takes his time analyzing all the information given to him before making a quick decisions. He knows that the choices he makes will ultimately affect his people's social and mental state. Should things take a turn for the worse, Gilgamesh will be in the front lines to make sure that his people continue to live and carry on the traditions of his kingdom. Sakuta continuously finds himself in supernatural situations with his friends and colleagues. Oftentimes, he listens to their worries and tries to figure out a way for them to understand their concern and grow from it. Sakuta has dealt with these painful moments before, so he wants to be their guiding light when they feel as though all hope is lost. Who will be able to stay true to himself even at the darkest of times?

Hayasaka Ai (Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai) vs Tōru (Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon)
SpoilerShow
Servants in their own way, Hayasaka Ai and Tōru do their best to provide for their master and assist them any way they can. Ai acts as the stoic, level-headed subject for her mistress. Oftentimes, she is the voice of reason, preventing her from doing shameless actions and over-the-top antics. In addition, she is her master's best friend, acting as a shoulder to lean on when times are tough. Tōru has a bright, energetic personality and is willing to do anything to make her master happy. Whether it is cooking a hearty meal or cleaning the house, she always gives it her all. While she may go overboard with her enthusiasm, Tōru genuinely enjoys the company she has with her mistress and desires of these peaceful days to continue forever. Megumin (KonoSuba) vs Nakano Azusa (K-ON!)
SpoilerShow
Oftentimes, it is difficult to be the most sensible one of the group. Take Megumin, for instance. It is clear that any problem and difficulty can be solved with a simple explosion. Why her party chooses not to let her vaporize their issues away is beyond her. As one of the more powerful members of her group, it is her responsibility to select quests that grant them the greatest amount of revenue, no matter how difficult the mission is, much to everyone's chagrin. Nakano Azusa does not have it easy either. While everyone is having a tea break or fooling around, Azusa desperately tries to get them to practice. If they are to practice their craft in the most optimal way, extra diligence and focus is needed. Yet, she somehow gets sucked in their world of fun, of which she will deny enjoying. Can Megmin blast her competition away, or can Azusa sway them with her music?
Kuriyama Mirai (Kyōkai no Kanata) vs Miyazono Kaori (Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso)
SpoilerShow
How does one live in a world where nobody is willing to accept you? Because of her powers, Kuriyama Mirai is shunned from the spirit hunter society, treated as more of a burden than a helpful comrade. Her normal lifestyle is not as comfortable as she hoped, struggling to make ends meet and continuously making poor decisions. Still, Mirai tries to keep her head held high, believing that, if she worked hard enough, maybe someone will recognize her. Due to her odd performance style, Miyazono Kaori was looked down upon by many musical institutions. Her unorthodox playstyle and tendency not to follow the score made it difficult for others to perform duets with her. Kaori understands that life is too short to always do what the sheet music suggests one to play, so she challenges others by making them listen to her own melody. Will either of them be able to find the one person who will accept her for who she is?

Fujiwara Chika (Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai) vs Hirasawa Yui (K-ON!)
SpoilerShow
No group is complete without that extra bundle of energy. Fujiwara Chika loves to be the center of attention. Whether it is talking about love or playing a new game, Chika is ready to jump at the chance to be a part of the conversation. Chika might express her opinions bluntly, but everyone knows that she means well. Hirasawa Yui is the driving force that keeps her club going. Initially taking the Light Music Club literally, Yui slowly improves as a guitarist and a singer. Every now and again, she would get distracted from things such as sweets and exciting events. Who can continue to smile brightly when the match concludes?
Shirai Kuroko (Toaru Series) vs Asada Shino (Sword Art Online)
SpoilerShow
Justice will always be by their side. When her city is in danger, Shirai Kuroko is ready to take action. She will quickly trap the enemy where they stand so that others can quickly capture them without harming themselves. When Kuroko is not patrolling the streets, she spends her time hanging out with her friends, going out for treats or engaging in small talk. Asada Shino is one of the top players in her virtual game. When said players disappear one by one, it is her duty to get to the bottom of this mysterious phenomenon and snipe it from its source. When away from the game, Shino tries her best not to stand out from the crowd so they do not take advantage of her weakness. Can Kuroko teleport her way to victory, or can Shino shoot her adversary away?

Takanashi Rikka (Chūnibyō demo Koi ga Shitai!) vs Kafū Chino (Gochūmon wa Usagi Desu ka?)
SpoilerShow
Neither of these girls' ages appear to match their maturity and personality. Although Takanashi Rikka is in high school, she still views the world as a magical place of darkness and wonder. Still stuck in her eighth-grade syndrome, Rikka will perform elaborate chants and concoct various potions in order to fulfill the task at hand. While many people claim that her antics are childish, Rikka treats it more as a self-defense mechanism, unable to handle the truth and weight of her pain and past. Although Kafū Chino is in grade school, her realism and stoicism make her older associates view her as an elder sister. The passing of her mother and tending of the family café gave her a more mature outlook in life, which is reflected by her calm, yet stern words. Still, Chino does not mind indulging herself in childish affairs, even if she denies enjoying it. Can Rikka's witty personality bring her victory, or will Chino's mature charms dazzle the voters?
