A spoiler is defined as "anything that discloses an event, plot or other information before it is revealed within the specific work being discussed", courtesy of AnimeSuki. Since the International Saimoe League Forums is a discussion-heavy place that will inevitably invoke spoilers during various exchanges, all users must adhere to the following spoiler policy to ensure that entertainment will not be spoiled for other unsuspecting users. Failure to comply may result in a warning; repeated violations will result in a ban.
How to use a spoiler tag:The golden rule is: when revealing manga, visual novel, light novel spoilers or recently aired and future events not yet shown in the anime, it must be under clearly labeled spoiler tags!
Code: Select all
Spoiler goes here
Spoiler tags can be used to hide large images (although it does not halt image loading) or large amounts of text for clarity. Its primary purpose of course, is to hide spoilers. When posting information that can potentially spoil other users about a work, do not hesitate to use spoiler tags. Also, when hiding spoilers, make sure your spoiler tag is clearly labelled! Do this by replacing the label shown in the example above with brief information about the spoiler. There are spoiler tags that people want to open, and there are those that people don't; the only way to differentiate them is through the labels.
Whether or not a piece of information needs to be put under spoiler tags depends partially on the topic itself. If the topic is "Hayate no Gotoku!" in the "General Anime" forum, it is not required that spoiler tags be used when talking about information that has already been shown in the anime (although users may apply them if they wish). However, if you post the same thing in a "Clannad" thread (perhaps for the purpose of comparison), it must be under clearly labeled spoiler tags.
There is no such thing as a "spoiler character": the existence of any character in itself does not constitute a spoiler unless the identity of said character potentially spoils events from the story. For instance Nakano Azusa is not a spoiler even if she appears halfway through the story, because discussing her traits spoils nothing about K-On!. However, as with any character, invoking specific examples of what she did in the story is a spoiler.
Practice discretion. If you realize that what you're posting might ruin the experience for others, regardless of whether or not you'd personally be fine with it, use a labeled spoiler tag. If you feel that what you're posting is outside the scope of the topic, use a labeled spoiler tag.
