I'm a huge lover of tsundere. Though I will admit, I don't like extreme versions like Louise and Shana. I can't really explain why I enjoy tsundere so much.
Some favorites include: Aisaka Taiga, Sachikawa Eri, Hiiragi Kagami, Sonozaki Mion, Kawasumi Mai.

Huh, I never though of Mion as a Tsundere. She would probably fit though.
Though, some of the main ones don't get any real development, except maybe at the very end of the series.
Though it lacks the most frightning example.
I was mainly thinking about the side characters yes, usually here for the comic relief.chaosprophet wrote:Unnn... I don't think they are rarely developed. If they're side characters than the like many other side characters don't develop. But ones with more main roles usually develops and when they don't there is a good chance of it being a case of Adaptation Decay.

Not a fan of tsundere, but hey, they're pretty much designed to be the exact opposite of my favorite character. Have a especial dislike for Louise and Taiga for being way too violent. It's not natural (or nice...) to constantly beat on some one you like. Though I'm not quite following where some people claim Taiga is not a extreme tsundere...She comes a whole lot closer to Louise, than Shana does, imo.

Taiga was like that at the beggining but she developed a lot during the story... that's what Anime's Louise lacked.

Taiga's tsundere qualities went deredere (at least I think that's the correct term) as the span of the show elapsed, she became my favorite Rie tsundere at the end. She's not that violent imo.

Well one of the tsundere definitions is one that starts tsun but with time goes to the dere side. Taiga was very violent in the beginning IMO.
That's one is good but I prefer her with a cape (or would it be a cloack withou a hood... unnn)!KholdStare88 wrote:Louise in uniform!~

MINORUN HAS THE RIGHT IDEA!
Wait, Kawasumi Mai can be considered tsundere?
I'm not tsundere, dammit.

Re: Tsundere - Like, Dislike, Why?
Louise was more of a traditional tsundere in season 1. She seemed somewhere between a Type A and a defrosting ice queen, but her situation was at least believable and that's mostly why I liked her. Unfortunately, season 2 kinda nerfed the potential, but she'll still always be one of my top tsundere characters.
Again, Taiga is the best one I've ever seen. Her situation and her development were very plausible. I think disliking a character just because they get violent or angry is writing them off way too soon without even trying to look at anything else.

Re: Tsundere - Like, Dislike, Why?
But some are still claiming Shana is a extreme tsundere, when she developed in a similar way, except she never actually beat on Yuuji. So in terms of extreme tsunderes - Louise > Taiga > Shana.chaosprophet wrote:Taiga was like that at the beggining but she developed a lot during the story... that's what Anime's Louise lacked.
@Seishi: I can't help it, I look at characters likability as how much I would want to be with them, and violent tsunderes are at the bottom of my list, no matter how cute their appearance is. Especially when they're both condescending AND violent. It drives me nuts watching the protagonist take the abuse so willingly.

Wow. She's more Tsundere in the manga then.Demi. wrote:But some are still claiming Shana is a extreme tsundere, when she developed in a similar way, except she never actually beat on Yuuji. Taiga seems a bit more tsundere in the manga, that's it. I'd say her development in the anime was great.
..I don't like to see how much I 'want to be with them' as there's only one which I'm really delusional over. \o/

I was talking about Shana. She beats Yuji with her sword in it. She also throws an alarm clock and a coffee cup at the back of his head.

You guys have no idea how much I loved Louise after the first season. I don't even count yandere as a part of tsundere wtf?

Re: Tsundere - Like, Dislike, Why?
For me, I'd rather not associate affection for tsunderes on screen to affection for tsunderes IRL. The difference between that 1st person and 3rd person perspective is vast. I certainly wouldn't want to be the one getting whipped, bombed, and called a baka inu every 5 minutes, yet that doesn't mean I don't like watching it happen to someone else (an extreme example, but the idea is there). It's like comparing shooting someone to getting shot.
Anyways, I personally neither hate tsunderes nor love them as a general archetype. If done right, as in tsun and dere are balanced, then I will come to like that character. I also favor characters that progresses from high tsun to dere ratio to low tsun to dere ratio over the course of the series. Taiga is perhaps a good example of that, and that's why she's one of my favorite characters. If done "wrong" however, I'd find the constant and over-the-top abuse annoying and completely overshadowing the dere....
And for anyone who wishes to delve into Tsundereology, I dug up the Neo-Tsundre vs Classic Tsundere discussion from the Cambrian ages of the ISML 2008 thread, when Psieye was still around. Moe is science.

And that's why Psieye's logic fails, because moe isn't science.

Lol, I couldn't agree more. I absolutely hate having to deal with those kinds of girls (and guys) IRL, though none of it is physically abusive... Psieye is quite something else, that's for sure. Someone should dig up Ken Akamatsu's essay about moe, too.

But depending of the level of the abuse it would be difficult for a tsundere to redeem herself in my eyes. Taiga did a wonderful job at it IMO.Seishi wrote:Again, Taiga is the best one I've ever seen. Her situation and her development were very plausible.
