Saki

Well now. I don't know if anyone in this show is a prime ISML candidate, but the characters are certainly interesting enough on their own. Yuuki seems liked for her tacos, fang, loli, and Kugimiya. Nodoka is way too top-heavy, but at least she has a cute face. Saki looks like Strike Witches' Miyafuji Yoshika, what with near panchira shots in the anime in addition to the facial resemblance.

Image

And the LIGHTNING. Surely I'll play if it can get that intense. In fact, I may start jumping in more on the ISML Mahjong thread ( viewtopic.php?f=26&t=279" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ), but there seems to be a huge learning curve at the start. x.x Have to wait on final exams to end here first...

So after two episodes we have a cluster of game rules, yuri undertones, possible fanservice reserved for a DVD release ... and nobody really cares about the one guy, Kyoutarou, eh? Seems to be all about the girls in this one. And the CG mahjong tiles.

Unnn watched the first episode and I liked it. The characters seems interesting. The lightning effects during the games made me laught. :P Now I know nothing about mahjong... but it interested me. Anyone can give me an link to a guide of how to play it with the rules in the show? (of course I can look for it myself but if someone already know somewhere with an beginner-friedly one...)

Does the show worth watching if you know nothing about mahjong, and don't have a particular interest toward it ? ^^'

I would say it is. My case was the same as yours (I only got interested in mahjong after watching it... before I was only curious).

A lot of the show would be cut out if all the mahjong scenes are removed, so I think having an interest (even if it is one you get after watching it and not before) is important.

The plot hasn't really started developing just yet, and I can get better fanservice in other series. :\

I watched Shion no Ou without knowing much (nor was interested in) shogi, but I ended up enjoying it very much. The same can be said for this show. I don't have an interest in mahjong, but as long as there is suspense and decent plot, I'll watch the anime. Saki does satisfy those criteria.

I know nothing about mahjong and feel kind of lame when they go on using their mahjong-y terms, despite there being notes in the Underwater subs. It still seems fun, if only for Fukuyama Jun's character whose-name-I-already-forget and Takei Hisa/STUDENT CONGRESS PRESIDENT gal.

Maybe if I like this show and end up learning a bit about mahjong, I'll be able to watch Akagi, perhaps Kaiji as well. The noses and lack of cute little girls....

And has a Kugyuu loli who loves tacos. Gotta love that, right? I mean, not like I'm watching this show for the seiyuu cast, yuri undertones or GONZO QUALITY or anything.

I don't really like the exaggerated special effects. (i.e., the lightning zaps) Nonetheless, I'm watching this like everybody else - for the cute stuffs.

Just saw in Sankaku a random video with Yuuki Kataoka. I couldn't understand it but appearently in the middle of the madness she's showing some of the hands and maybe some of the rules. Well while the video isn't the site is NSFW (just to anyone that already didn't know that). You can find the video here.

Casting in this series sure is amazing...

Same as somebody here, Saki influence me to start playing Mahjong. Still newbie now though.

I've watched first episode and felt its oh!-so-great intensive plays. Soon, Saki became my most priority this season. (Even more than K-ON!)
And guys, in my opinion, it's getting greater as the series progress in manga. Saki's loli rival is damn scary but cute in someway.

Anyway, does anyone think some girls from this series are going to take part in ISML2010?
