It's about 9 hours until episode 11 is available on CR for free users (and about 16 hours until I'll personally be able to watch it), and since I'm expecting shit to get real, I decided to watch something a bit more lighthearted beforehand.

KanColle, episode 11Show
Akagi, you are an idiot. Yes, go ahead and remove Fubuki from your escort when you split the group up, because surely, you won't need Fubuki's brand new AA fire director. /sarcasm

And so, only now near the end of the series, does the series bring up the possibility of "repeating history"/unavoidable fate (and at the same time, for the first time, having the characters acknowledge there might have been previous events in the past (WWII). I'm not sure how I like how this plot point was introduced so late. Perhaps if there had been more split second frame flashbacks in the vein of Akagi's nightmare that was used in this episode, it could have built the series up some more. However, that might have made the series more dramatic and the slice of life aspects might not have worked that well. Or maybe I'm just unfairly comparing KanColle's adaptation to Ikkitousen. In Ikkitousen, it is acknowledged that all of the characters are more or less reincarnations of their Romance of the Three Kingdoms counterparts. And fighting against there fates was a major plot point. It was one of the only things that made the anime watchable, in my opinion. (Not the exploding t-shirts).

Oh, well. I'm fairly sure that scream for Akagi at the end belonged to Fubuki, so I'll be assuming her new AA equipment will blast those shells at the last possible moment in the next episode and Akagi will cheat death (at least for the time being).

As for Kitakami.... it seems the Admiral had made a blunder with not taking the opportunity to separate Ooi and Kitakami when he created mobile assault group five. If he had, Ooi and Kitakami might have been able to increase their adaptability and flexibility in fighting alongside different kanmusu. Because as you can tell here, Kitakami was relying on Ooi on instinct in that scene. Conversely, you could also blame Nagato (or Akagi, if Akagi's suggestions included separating those two), for breaking up a well-oiled combat duo.

Either way, I'm expecting a Kongou x Fubuki ending or I will declare this series as shit.

Kantai CollectionEpisode 12Show
I though it could not gone worse... it does.
Well, at least the 3D animation used there is one of the best whole season, it's tidy

FORNICATE THAT USELESS PIECE OF P**P WHY SHOULD HE EVEN RETURN? CAN YOU JUST STAY DEAD AND RETIRE FROM THE GAME???
Kantai Collection Final JudgementShow
STORY:
- Idea: 5/10
The game itself is always interesting, the story fails to match the epic-ness of both the game and history.
- Character Personality & Development: 6/10
Well, at least there are developments.
- Plot Development: 4/10
If only they followed history, therefore adding more sad drama, it would be very good.
But they didn't, and Kisaragi ended up as the only victim of the war.

ART & ANIMATION
- Character Drawing & Expression: 7/10
Adequate, it is KanColle drawing. Expression could use more detail.
- Movement, Transition: 7/10
There are times when the 3D usage and movement animation goes from good to very good. But there are also times when it fails.
- Background: 8/10
Adequate background, the lightening is good: it brings out the beauty of each scene.

VOICING & OST
- Voicing: 6/10
My ear hurts most of the time, except when it is Nagato & Haruna speaking.
(and Kongou, but that is mostly because I like her)
- SFX: 7/10
There are times when it gone sloppy. Well, at least it's not a joke
- BGM, OP, ED: 7/10
The original anime OST is not that good, in exception of one piece (The one that plays when Fubuki rig Yamato)
The attempt to cover KanColle OST into anime original OST failed.
OP is pretty good
ED, is EPIC. <3

ENJOYMENT: 5/10
There are times when I enjoyed this, but there are times when I did not.

TOTAL: 62
RailWarrior wrote:Lol KanColle getting a sequel. Can Fubuki not be the protagonist this time?
if it can, let's pray it will be Yamato
though I don't even know if I will watch or not
Giving his love for life, and died dreaming about her in the end. A real happy man, right? ~

Episode 12Show
In the undying words of Emiya Shirou, "people die when they are killed."
Three people would like to differ:
1) Kitakami,
2) Admiral,
3) Kisaragi.

Honestly, this episode wasn't that bad, because I already predicted like 90% of everything that happened. There was nothing that could disappoint me.

There's a theory floating around the internet that when kanmusu sink, they become Abyssals.
So when Kisaragi sunk in episode 3, she didn't actually "die"; she survived as an Abyssal. In this case, Kisaragi became the Airfield/Midway Princess. It's still just a theory, but it's highly supported by the fact that Kisaragi's hairpin appeared right after Midway Princess was defeated.

Kantai Collection ep. 12 (END)Show
Image
- It's one "big damn heroes" moment after another... First, Fubuki saves Akagi, then Yamato with Shoukaku and Zuikaku, then Nagato (with Mutsu, Jintsuu, Sendai, Naka, and the AL strike/decoy group--sadly without Ryuujou, though she was there during the decoy phase), and then Taihou (who was the mysterious shadowy figure in the previous episode).

Image
- In gameplay terms, I'm gonna guess the Admiral bought those buckets with real-world money. (Which would explain his suddenly being AFK back in episode 9.)

Image
- DYNAMIC ENTRY!

Image
Image
- RULES OF NATURE! (And they run when the sun comes up, with their lives on the line... ALIVE! For a while... NO CHOICE! Gotta follow the laws of the wild!)

Image
- I think it's time for Jack Poi...TO LET 'ER RIP! ["Nightmare of Solomon" mode]

Image
- Wave motion gun ready...wait, I don't have that...

Image
Image
- *Cue the intro chords of "It Has To Be This Way"*

Image
- That is so Shimada Humikane-ish.

Image
- In other words, "She arrives precisely when she means to."

Image
- Yay, Ryuujou! (And "Drunken Taihou," too.) Too bad it's a distance shot... And no Isuzu. Damnit.

Image
- Ya sure dat's enuff dakka, ladies?

Image
- Nope, dere's no such fing as enuff dakka, of course!

Image
Image
- "Nanomachines, honey! They regenerate in response to physical trauma! You can't hurt me, Fleet Girls!" (At least until the three Wo-class carriers get taken out. That's enough Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance references for today...)

Image
- Up next, Spongebob!

Image
- If the Admiral ditches his faceless status and gets a speaking role along with Isuzu, Ryuujou, Houshou, Bismarck, Prinz Eugen and the submarine girls, sure, I don't mind seeing a second season.

Final impressions: Well, in a way, the KanColle gamers got their wish to see the Kanmusu animated (some, but not all). Even though I really wanted to see Ryuujou and Houshou have a bigger role besides being visible in some scenes (Isuzu didn't even appear), seeing Yamato, Haruna, Kongou, Shoukaku, Zuikaku, (the other) Takao, and Atago ain't bad. Also, Kisaragi got a boost in fanart thanks to episode 3 (though that implication at the end of this episode...*shivers*).

But for all that was apparently good on the surface, I can't help but sense uncertainty in the direction the show wanted to take. As much as I hate to ponder over the "what ifs" and "what could have beens," I wish this show had a clearer vision of what it wanted to be and stuck with it. One can only hope that the second season will grow the beard (though the cynic in me warns against it). Arpeggio of Blue Steel: Ars Nova is definitely more solid than this.

Three out of five stars. (I may give a pardon and increase the rating if the OAVs are a bit better, though.)

I liked the show overall, but think it could have been much better. And I think a good part of the flaws comes from them trying to do too much fanservice for the gamers.
ep12Show
After a quite good episode 11, 12 was disappointing. Not because of not having deaths, as I already was expecting that. It felt rushed with lots of characters put in, the blue eyed Wo sinking too easily and off-screen. Also i think the mood transition on that ep was bad, especially with too many funny scenes in the middle of a serious situation.

KanColle, episode 12Show
Well, it seems my first impression about Kitakami not having been destroyed in the previous episode was right. My very first thought during that particular scene was that the shot of the explosion right after that close-up of Kitakami was a camera cut/different angle to a different area. I would have to rewatch it to be sure, though.

As far as the "fighting fate" angle is concerned, like I said for the previous episode, it was poorly executed due to none of the previous episodes even making it an issue so there was no in-story lead up to it. The producers should have gambled on making a boatload (pun intended) of money off the BDs and went for a 2-cour season right off the bat to allow for a more cohesive plot and story pacing.

Also, we have Taihou show up at the end so Mamiko Noto could make a cameo...

Also, Yamato declares war on the DMM devs as seen here:

Image

Image

And the Admiral finally comes back from being AFK. I assume it would be best not to think about what other things he could have been up to in the interim. Speaking of the Admiral, I knew he was going to show up at the end when Fubuki went to the flower field to tie together an earlier scene. Still, it makes him seem like a lolicon stalker. Which again, is probably not far from the truth.

Finally, Kisaragi's ribbon floating up to the surface drops really strong hints at the Abyssal fleet being composed of zombie ships, which ironically enough, mirrors my comparison to Guild Wars 2 in my first episode thoughts (although I had made the comparison for slightly different reasons).

Anyway, here's hoping the BD sales from the first season will allow the second season to have better pacing and a more well-thought out plot.

7/10 due to Kongou.
