To Aru Kagaku no Railgun
Who is watching this? It rocks! Plot-wise so far, it's not exactly epic. But Mikoto is win and is now my favorite character of all anime, thanks.

Re: To Aru Kagaku no Railgun
Caught the first episode a couple of days ago. I had dropped Index last year due to boredom, but Railgun seems a lot more exciting off the bat. while the first episode wasn't earth-shattering, it was a nice intro to the characters and very catchy. As an introduction, I actually think this is better than the manga. The highlights for me were the yuri antics, Railgun doing what she does best, and the OP (Slayers-esque to my ears). At first, Kuroko's voice was grating, but it grew on me after awhile. I actually like her voice acting, irregardless of how her voice sounds. As a final note, Mazui has the better subs with regard to video quality, though Ayako may have just sacrificed quality for expediency trying to get the first ep releasd.

I enjoyed ep1 of this, also the ending (opening) song for this ep is not bad. Got the full version in my car already

I'm personally quite interested in what direction this series will take. It seems capable of going for a somewhat slice of life route just by having the four girls interact, yet the potential for some good action and science is definitely there. I'm also looking forward to understanding why everyone and their mother seems to be hyping Railgun as if it's literally the second coming.
And yeah, episode 1 was pretty good; a fine mix of fun and character introduction that didn't feel boring even for someone who came knowing some of the stuff in Index. Actually, I think I said the same about Index ep 1 too, but let's not get into that.

Yo.
I think this series will focus on action or at least have a dynamic plot. I'm sure we'll have plenty of slice of life moments or even episodes, but a show with superhumans that's purely slice of life would be somewhat disappointing. I haven't seen any of the hype, although I have read that this show was highly anticipated. I assume that's due to the popularity of Railgun herself.

The probability of this show being slice of life only is 0% if you remember Mikoto and her sisters and two teachers shown in SWAT uniforms in the OP.

Re: To Aru Kagaku no Railgun
It doesn't have to be a slice of life show completely, but it can show some elements of it. For instance, JC Staff can easily make the first few episodes into independent incidents with the purpose of showing the girls' lives and/or help them bond a bit. At least, that's something that conforms to my definition of "slice of life".Eisdrache wrote:The probability of this show being slice of life only is 0% if you remember Mikoto and her sisters and two teachers shown in SWAT uniforms in the OP.
Then again, I agree that doing that too much would be wasting potential.

Re: To Aru Kagaku no Railgun
I actually don't know why I like the first episode. It was mostly relaxing with little plot, which is very similar to slice of life. I think what Eater wants to say is that, if Railgun doesn't turn into a complete action flick and has some downtime each episode that showcases the characters, it would turn out to be pretty good.

I liked the first ep. It felt slice of life-y. The ED song is pretty nice as well.

And just to randomly lengthen my post, Mazui's subs is now out for ep 2.

Re: To Aru Kagaku no Railgun
So I just watched the second episode.
ThoughtsShow
That was totally not what I expected at all, in a good way. I expected some action plot to happen, but it stuck with the school life, episodic element. Halfway through the episode, I noticed that I was grinning widely throughout all of it--not just smiling, but grinning. And this episode seems like something I would hate. There's something about Railgun that I can't explain, but it makes me happy every time I watch it.
I miss Kuroko's :3 in the Index OP though.

Re: To Aru Kagaku no Railgun
I can understand how some may get very annoyed with Kuroko very quickly.
...But I love her to pieces. I know the action will come back in an ep or two, but for now: bring on the serrrrrrrvice.

I'm a big fan of Mikoto - very glad they animated this story. She was always my favourite part of Index (especially the whole Accelerator coflict). Mikoto's antics with Touma were a blast to read about, and the supporting characters really give a refreshing perspective about what Academy City is like. I'm glad to see she's keeping up in the relegation tournament, too.

That's because Index had all these great characters but ended up being a miserable FAIL!Eater-of-All wrote:I'm also looking forward to understanding why everyone and their mother seems to be hyping Railgun as if it's literally the second coming.
Railgun rocks! Railgun brings hope to the masses who struggled through as much of Index as they could stand.

Re: To Aru Kagaku no Railgun
It seems like I was one of the few who enjoyed Index.
Anyway episode 2 was good but I'm not that fond of Kuroko fagging over Misaka all the time. Feels to me like a joke that is used again and again and it's not funny anymore. Not that I dislike Kuroko, she was pretty cool on ep 1.
