Minami-ke

Chiaki > everybody else

But I love this series for its slice of life .. and ingenious cast of characters.

Three Minami sisters, named after spring, summer, and fall. So where's winter? Well she's part of another family, who's also named Minami. And Touma has three brothers named after spring, summer, and fall. ...So that leaves a missing winter, right? In comes Fuyuki, the neighbor.

Makoto the trap and Touma the reverse-trap. Hosaka the eternal kimochi-warui.

The only thing you can't love about this series is Asread. Where's Doumu when you need them? :(

It doesn't matter to me as long as the comedy is still there, which the episode of Okawari I saw failed at. I can't comment on Okaeri, but I've been hearing decent things about it. Having decent animation is a plus, but not necessary for a comedy show, at least for me.

I'm just glad that they didn't completely pull a Gunslinger Girl -Il Teatrino- as far as the Minami-ke sequels go.

I only saw season 1, but I found it fairly decent. As usual in these kind of shows I end up liking the idiots the most, so Kana and Hosaka were by far my favourite characters. Touma (冬馬) is the winter, btw; Chiaki declares that Touma is younger because "winter follows autumn" (from Wikipedia).

All in all, a fun series which I have not gotten off my lazy ass to see the second season of yet.

Mmmr I really liked the first season. Second wasn't as good, and third is just average. :\

Hmm, I don't understand the poll options. Anyways, I only watched the first season and it wasn't bad. I Am Boss and Kirakira were definitely the best characters. That being said, the others didn't really stand out as much for me. As such, this series falls a bit short of other slice of life anime like Hidamari Sketch. I will say that a separate series about the Minami brothers would be interesting. The only thing more amusing than one idiot is a bunch of idiots.

Was a big fan for Mako-chan (Season 2 actually gave 'her' a lot of good airtime), but on to season 3....

But overall
1 > 3 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 2
2 was so bad in the beginning, that i suffered it...it tired to pick it self up in the second half, but o so late.

Season 3 is becoming a charm on it own, its funny, but somewhat in a different sense then season 1.

As for my fav right now, no one really...

Mako-chan was fun; rarely fails to at least bring a smile to my face. As a favorite character though, I'd have to pick Hosaka of course. He takes "fabulous blockhead" to a whole new level.

And regarding Okaeri, general concensus out there says Asread is traumatized after what happened to Okawari, and made the third season resemble the first as much as possible. Not that there's anything wrong with following a winning formula, of course, but just that it'll be practically impossible for Okaeri to surpass season one.

Either way, at least I can breathe a sigh of relief for Okaeri. Watching Okawari felt worst than watching a black screen for 24 minutes (no offense).

S1 was epic.
S2 was a doujin.
S3 is good.

The underlined part is why you don't understand. ^^; But that's totally all right. Maybe you're better off not watching seasons two and three (which were animated by Asread whereas Doumu animated season one).

Hm.. I would agree to this since Okaeri episodes so far really have been pretty well-behaved, so that's good to hear (and see as proof). But yeah, they already screwed up their first impression, so first season will forever remain dominant.

It's a decent slice of life overall imo. I liked Chiaki the most for the first season (didn't like her that much in second season). Haruka is dominating ~Okawari~ and ~Okaeri~ for me now. I laughed a few times throughout the series as well.

I kinda agree on how Asread want to make the third season resemble the first season as much as possible, but I felt that they still left a bit of details that was unique to season two, trying to mix them together, hence my previous message on how season three is interesting [but different then season one]
I personally would say that animation for season three is still more prone to ecchi then season one [where season two animation is really close to ecchi, and where the fail jokes were more ecchi, in the few ep that I care to remember]

Okawari was FAIL, but the presence of Mako-chan in that season kept me going (heck, I liked season two Mako-chan more then 'her' in season one and season three)

I've only seen the first season. Dropped the second one after the first episode; it was that terrible. Haven't seen the third one at all, although I hear it's a step up from Okawari.
My favourite would have to be Chiaki, I guess. Mako-chan & Hosaka too. :D

I liked Minami-ke well enough (gave it a 7/10), but it didn't really appeal to me as much as say, Ichigo Mashimaro and Hidamari Sketch. It was actually one of the first few series I saw (I actually watched it right after Haruhi..), so that might have something to do with it. Perhaps I'll rewatch the series (and then force my way through Okawari and Okaeri) one day.

Having just rewatched Okawari, i've found it wasn't as bad as I remembered it. It certainly isn't as bad as people keep claiming it is. It is just different. More slice of life than comedy. I only found one episode I didn't like (Six), and three I found ackward (One, Twelve, and Thirteen). One was a little too fan servicey, but the Touma/Mako-chan moments saved it for the most part. 12 and 13 suffer from added misplaced drama. There is still some good humor in both, but the drama distracts. Six is painful because the jokes fall flat due to flat boring character (Fuyuki). he would do well as a unless harem lead, but not all that good in Minami-ke. Everyone else is weird in one way or another, or can at least be a proper straight man for the jokes...Fuyuki...even fails at being a straight man.

Okawari focuses on Chiaki's group of friends and Kana for the most part. Most episodes have Kana, Mako-chan, and Uchida, sometimes with Touma and usually annoying Chiaki. Haruka gets to be Banchou more often (which is scary). Hosaka, while only having limited time on screen, and only one real fantasy the entire season (poor blow-up pool bear), he made the most of his time by being FABULOUS...plus they made him fit as a god....even gave him "GOD" belt.

Okaeri is funnier than Okawari because it has returned to the comedy roots rather than the slice of life feel that was Okawari. The recent Mako-chan episode had me laughing rather than just giggling. Also Hosaka's "Curry Fairy" song had ne giggling before he even started singing. I know we were getting back to his older fantasies and it was just silly and over the top...and in front of Chiaki.

That said I like Doumu's artistic style better.

I loved this series, even tho the bad animation quality almost made me drop the show in it's second season I'm glad I persevered because after a while I didn't even notice it anymore and I had lots of lol.

Anyways, as favorites go: Touma > Kana > Chiaki

What can I say, I'm a sucker for short hair tomboys ^^;
