RESULTS: 2011 Male Tournament - Day 9

Post by maglor » Sat Dec 24, 2011 6:06 am

So, the month long Anime Male Tournament is finally over. Before we see the results, let's pass the time by munching on following questions. Again, any of the exhibition match is eligible as the answer. We can continue to present and discuss answers to question 2 to 5 even after the results come out.

1. Which arena will the winner have the smallest percentage of votes?

2. What does match result between Homura and Kuroneko in arena 10 tells us?

3. Which rank should be assigned to winner of Arena 4?

4. Which rank should be assigned to loser of Arena 5?

5. What have we learned from all the ISML matches in December 2011?

1. Which arena will the winner have the smallest percentage of votes?
Arena 8, I don't know them and many people on the forums abstained that match...

2. What does match result between Homura and Kuroneko in arena 10 tells us?
How strong Kuroneko still is after her succesful postseason and if she can participate as a winner next year as well.
For Homura... she was anticipated as high as Kanade, I don't she is anymore. We will see if she wins ,but if she loses she'll have a hard time...

3. Which rank should be assigned to winner of Arena 4?
4th place. Tomoya is now fourth and Edward is fifth... they battle for the fourth place, I guess?

4. Which rank should be assigned to loser of Arena 5?
I can't choose between last or last but one

5. What have we learned from all the ISML matches in December 2011?
That the male/exhibition tournament was fairly popular and that there should be a new one next year!

5. What have we learned from all the ISML matches in December 2011?

That we can't have Hideyoshi compete in the male version of ISML.

a) These exhibition rounds are still titled SaiMoe. If this is SaiGar, there just might be slightly less votes for Hideyoshi, but...
b) Hideyoshi should not have been eligible to compete with the male gender. If females compete with each other in the regular season, and males compete with each other in the December exhibitions, then it is only right that we can only field Hideyoshi in the Hideyoshi-gender version of ISML.

As demonstrated here:
Image

As such, we should totally have an exhibition tournament for Hideyoshi ISML, with only 1 option for Hideyoshi himself.

1. Which arena will the winner have the smallest percentage of votes?
Arena 2

2. What does match result between Homura and Kuroneko in arena 10 tells us?
Homura's strength is overrated but she looks strong enough to make the main tournament in 2012.

3. Which rank should be assigned to winner of Arena 4?
5th

4. Which rank should be assigned to loser of Arena 5?
8th

5. What have we learned from all the ISML matches in December 2011?
Male characters have their fans in ISML too.

maglor wrote:5. What have we learned from all the ISML matches in December 2011?
Not sure we can get any ISML level information out of these matches, since we only really saw 1vs1 style match-ups and not the standard fare of 'each character against the rest of the contenders' style of the normal season.
Since I don't remember seeing the stastics on M/F voters and age stastics shown anywhere, I won't say anything about that, but I think the biggest flaw was lack of notice (and possibly interest) in these matches. I think next year should recieve a better turnout, especially if advertising happens throughout the year, and not just close to the end.

1. Arena 2. My count of posted votes tell me so.
2. If Homura wins, absolutely nothing, since most of the remaining voters seem to be more aligned with the type of people I see in forums, while the missing people are the ones that don't. If Kuroneko wins... Homura probably is going to have a fairly bad next year too (if she can manage to have one at all beyond the prelims)
3. 4. Abstain because I'm not really following the loser brackets.
5. Exhibition tournament voters tend to be the ones that follow the forums closely (since that's probably how they know that there's going to be an exhibition tournament to begin with), and thus posted vote counting is MUCH more accurate here than it is in the main event. Also, most voters are guys...?

I hope a real male wins the male tournament today.

1. 12
2. How strong Homura is, or how much faith Homura supporters can have even after she loses this match (I see it as a foregone conclusion  )
5. That I'd rather have more fangirls than guys voting in a male tournament....

2. What does match result between Homura and Kuroneko in arena 10 tells us?
I'm afraid it's gonna be "Homura is terribly overrated internationally". I hope she can get close to Ruri.

3. Which rank should be assigned to winner of Arena 4?
5th, although I'm biased towards Tomoya :P

4. Which rank should be assigned to loser of Arena 5?
10th I believe

1. Which arena will the winner have the smallest percentage of votes?
Arena 11
2. What does match result between Homura and Kuroneko in arena 10 tells us?
The strength of Homura and PMMM in general for next year.
3. Which rank should be assigned to winner of Arena 4?
5th place
4. Which rank should be assigned to loser of Arena 5?
10th?
5. What have we learned from all the ISML matches in December 2011?
Hm...I think most of the voters voted for characters in series that are popular in ISML in general (AB!, CG, ToAru, etc.) or have some popularity for that similar genre (BakaTest) and apparently not that many for the mainstream animes. Looks like we have voters that just like that stuff.

1. Which arena will the winner have the smallest percentage of votes?
Arena 4

2. What does match result between Homura and Kuroneko in arena 10 tells us?
I think we'll see that Homura should be able to easily make the main tournament next year, but have difficulty making the postseason; i.e. somewhere in the middle of the Nova division. Then again, we don't know how representative the voters in this male tournament are of ISML voters in the regular season.

3. Which rank should be assigned to winner of Arena 4?
Equal 5th with the winner of Arena 3.

4. Which rank should be assigned to loser of Arena 5?
Equal 11th with the loser of Arena 6.

What if I tell you guys that for this match, the M/F ratio is almost 60/40? You may assume that the normal ratio is 77/23, and there are indications that this ratio is true and consistent for this year.
