Purpose
This thread is to serve as a place anyone can write and store any inspiration that may come to them about exhibition matches. People may make suggestions and discuss exhibition matches suggested by others, so that staff may be given new inspiration for future exhibition matches. We also hope people will have fun tossing around some exhibition ideas.
Disclaimer: This thread is for suggestions for inspiration only. There is by no means any guarantee that matches suggested will be used at all. We are more interested in the idea and story behind the matches than the characters themselves.
Type of Exhibition in demand.

Type of Exhibition in demand.
- 1 character vs 1 character
- Group match of 8 characters
- Matches of other sizes and formats (though very unlikely this year)
- Please post a good reason or story for the match you are suggesting. For example, the 2010 Ruby R5 match between Asakura Minami (Touch) and Ayukawa Madoka (Kimagure Orange Road) carries a story between competing female character archetypes that may also interest anyone who knows about anime in the 1980s. In contrast, it is hard to guess at a story that may interest people for match between Kinomoto Sakura (Card Captor Sakura) and Suzumiya Haruhi (Suzumiya Haruhi).
- Try to make a match for which we are not sure of the victor. A match between Shana and Yoshida Kazumi does have immediately recognizable story line, but it is easy to guess that Shana will have an easy win with 70+% of the vote in this match given the current ISML climate. However, in a match between Kurahashi Riko (Love Lab) vs Natsuo Maki (Love Lab), the winner is much less clear as there is too little data available and both characters will have many opportunities to sway the voters between now and the time of the match. Thus, it is a match that is of greater interest.
A question to ask yourself would be "Will Character A get approximately 40 to 60% of votes if she/he/it is matched against Character B?" If you can say "very likely" or "yes" to that question, then you have an exhibition idea that is worth proposing to the public. - Consider whether at least one of the characters will be recognized by ~50% of the voters. Despite their historical interest, it is likely that characters like Asakura Minami and Ayukawa Madoka will fail this test, thus they may not be good choices for nominations by themselves. A possible alternative is in a 2 vs 2 match where you can pair a lesser known character with a more recognizable character. Another variation can be { 1 not well known but historically important character } + { 1 very well known character } vs { 2 somewhat well known characters from 2 different well recognized series }.
- Try recommending characters that haven't appeared in ISML match before. People like seeing "new" faces and names. One of the hopes of ISML is to introduce new characters and new series to the voters; thus staff will likely give more consideration to matches that include characters or series that haven't been exhibited before, even if the character or series may fail the above mentioned "50% recognizability" test.
- The big idea is to have fun. Feel free to troll and/or disregard the above 3 recommendations if you can post something that most people might find to be funny. This does not mean posting things that will offend or disgust others. Such offending posts will be deleted.
