A quick poll to see the possibilities for Couple tourney this year.

I like to lay out the main case for and against the restriction

Main Case for lifting the restriction : This will allow much greater diversity in couples nominated, which would ensure most of the matches to be well balanced instead being very lopsided in favor of characters from very few series

Main Case against lifting the restriction : Some popular series will have characters in main tournament while also in the couples tournament. We will likely have multiple characters that will appear in two arenas in the same voting day during Couples Tournament.

However, lifting the restriction may lead to a posibility that most of the players try to nominate the couples related to the characters who are in main tournament. So there will be less diversity instead in this case.
And the purpose of an exhibition, I learnt, is to popularize more characters and animations, while characters in main tournament have enough exposure already...

Depending on the purpose for this tournament. If it is to find the best couple in the anime then obviously do it without restriction. If it is to exhibit and increase exposure of Japanese animation and pop culture, then there are better options than a restricted couple tournament.

I believe that the couple tournament can become an official competition.The ornamental will not be lower than any other matches.
I agree with the reasons for lifting the restriction.Another reason I want to mention that Oreki Hotaro&Chitanda Eru and other couples both get the champions can't find any opponents.It is meaningless to fight for the secong place.If you ban them,the ornamental will be lower.

Exhibition Matches are official ISML-hosted events designed to raise awareness of anime series that are not represented and Japanese media characters who are not participating in the Main Tournament.

I prefer banning all of the characters advancing into the main tournament (at least those participating in the group stages shall be ineligible).

I'll take this one step further; I would also ban characters from ToC as well if you want to raise even more awareness from under-represented series.

i voted "no restrictions" so we can keep things simple for both the staff and voters.
if the restrictions were set this year, there would be a lot of great ships we'll miss out on.
Also, out of 2019's semi finalists, only Oreki x Chitanda will be allowed, and the pair will most likely win this year's shipping contest judging from their TOC performance and a lack of significant competition

The question of whether restrictions can actually foster greater diversity is a complicated issue. The answer will depend on the situation and the restriction itself. We currently do not have sufficient number of Couples Tournaments to give a definitive answer to this. While I listed the most frequently mentioned case put forward by those who would like the restriction to be lifted, I will not say I agree or disagree with the statement because I don't think there is sufficient data to give a valid answer.

I voted on against on lifting restriction, also probably restrict characters who won ISML as well. Since it might be better for diversity and it might have less occurrence when it comes to one-sided results. Also there may be less obvious results happening.

I think you should change the latter's name to just "Hanako-kun" because his real name is a spoiler.
He's the freakin' title character man, it'll make more sense to use that name because more people call him by that.

Good taste. Shinji x Kaworu is probably the only male/male pairing that will qualify, which makes it even more special.

The Tieba counterpart has posted the seeds before this forum did.
Since the format is a single elimination bracket, the seeding criteria is as follows:

Seeds 1-25 are arranged according to the number of nomination votes they got, which are intentionally hidden from voters. The pairs who qualified from the tiebreaker round (seed 26-32) are arranged by their points instead.

I'm going to post their matches here later after i copy the info from tieba and paste it into the wikia.
