Random Poll 3

Post by Chocola » Thu Oct 07, 2010 10:25 am

Did you know?

-The lowest recorded vote in ISML regular season is by Alice. (Misaka Shiori beat Alice Carroll 143-67 in ISML 2008.)
-The lowest recorded vote in ISML DE is by Konata. (Nagato Yuki beat Izumi Konata 519-445 in the Loser's Bracket of ISML 2008.)
-The largest recorded vote in ISML regular season is by Louise. (Louise Vallière beat Fukuji Mihoko 4285-1729 in ISML 2010.)
-Haibara Ai made it to the first round of AST in 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009 and lost. She was also in 2010, which was the first year she made past Round 1 after her debut in 2002.
-Nagato Yuki defeated herself in KBM 2009 (Nagato Yuki > Asahina Mikuru > Nagato Yuki 1754-775-433). The second Yuki was actually from Haruhi-chan.
-KBM's random god did not like Code Geass in 2008, where a Top 64 match consisted of Anya Alstreim > Shirley Fenette > Kouzuki Kallen > Tianzi 1266-1033-1013-914.
-Suzumiya Haruhi and Nagato Yuki met in a non-preliminary saimoe match a total of 10 times, where Yuki holds an 8-2 record. They both lost to Eruruu in Round 3 of AST 2009.
-AST 2002 had 5 main rounds before the Top 8 Bracket when in later years AST would have only 3 or 4 rounds. It was the only AST to consider characters from all anime that existed.
-Outside of ISML, where Saber has participated in 175 matches and 5 post-season matches, Saber has only been in 5 other matches from AST and KBM.
-Ryuuguu Rena has taken home 26 characters in AST and KBM. She must have a really big house.
-Suigintou seems to be the strongest Rozen Maiden due to her ISML performances, but she was eliminated by Shinku in AST 2005 and then by Suiseiseki in AST 2006! She never beat those two outside of ISML.

Are there any stats that you want to know about saimoe?

I must compile and provide data for 2007 and 2008 Super Best Moe Tournament. I have to dig into AnimeSuki for all those data.

2007 SBM : http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread. ... 6&page=607" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; : Champion - Shana

2008 SBM : http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread. ... 8&page=110" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; : Champion - Suigintou

and someone will ask why I always makes things hard for them............

Numbers are just numbers, it's the feelings of the voters that I enjoy reading. Numbers support those, but don't always take them into account.
They're also harder to get into statistics, and over a field-size like the entire globe, it's stretching my abilities to attempt it, which is where it becomes fun ^_^

I like statistics, its part of the reason why I'm doing a maths degree.
Keep hoping Crisu :) . If you rotate that win/loss matrix 90 degrees clockwise it sorta looks like a weird form of writing.

Statistics are really fun and tend to be quite interesting, as long as I'm not the one doing them. For instance, the comprehensive stats that NBA keeps on career highs, championship titles, salaries, etc., are always amusing to look at.

I'm surprised you haven't kept any stats on the number of green-eyed characters in every Saimoe tournament ever. Even though Teiran can probably name all blue-haired characters down to 2 decimal places. :(

Two more interesting facts:

KBM's winner has always been a new participant
2006 (Suiseiseki), 2007 (Hinagiku), 2008 (Holo), 2009 (Taiga)

Kyoto Anime characters have failed to win KBM and ended up taking runner-up spot two years in a row.
2008 (Kyo), 2009 (Kagami)

Those two trends also apply to 2010 KBM.

The history will repeat itself as the 2010 final is between a new participant (Tenshi - Angel Beats!) vs. Kyo Ani participant (Akiyama Mio - K-on)
so vote if you want to either break or continue this trend! I would say, Vote for Tenshi :D

Tl; dr....

Lol, jk. But seriously, I do think stats are helpful. Past voting trends, possible rivalries, etc. are good ways to increase interest in saimoe tournaments (and can make for more exciting match previews), but I also think that too much emphasis on numbers, especially when getting into stuff like predictive analytics, can be misleading since China seems to always throw off the expected results voting patterns can differ from year to year. Again, stats are fine for the fun stuff, but please leave the in-depth formulas and analyses for those who enjoy it. This is a saimoe tournament, not a business conglomerate. (Heh, this coming from someone who got a B in both Business Stats I and II.)
