When the initial groupings were released, I called Group 8 the 'Group of Death.' While it didn't send the five girls I thought it would to the regular season (Maria missed out), it was one of only five groups to send more than three girls to the regular season. The easiest draw went to Hinagiku, who faced exactly zero season-bound girls in her group. Here's how it breaks down:

Group 1: 2 (Mio Akiyama, Asami)
Group 2: 2 (Mikoto Misaka, Last Order)
Group 3: 3 (Shana, Houki, Ayase)
Group 4: 3 (Azusa, Charlotte, Nymph)
Group 5: 1 (Hinagiku)
Group 6: 5 (Taiga, Lingyin, Kuroko, KnY, Ui)
Group 7: 2 (Yuki, Sora)
Group 8: 4 (Haruhi, Yuri, Index, Kuroi)
Group 9: 4 (Victorique, Yui Hirasawa, Laura, Mikuru)
Group 10: 3 (Konata, Tsumugi, Nagi Sanzenin)
Group 11: 3 (Eucliwood, Tomoyo, C.C.)
Group 12: 5 (AB's Yui, Saber, Holo, Haruna, Seraphim)
Group 13: 3 (Kirino, Fate, Kyou)
Group 14: 4 (Kagami, Louise, AB's Shiina, Nagisa)
Group 15: 3 (Kuroneko, Hitagi, Mafuyu)
Group 16: 3 (Kanade, Nadeko, Rin)

Surprised, Elucia didn't make it? She was bumped out by Shirai Kuroko? This makes me a little surprised, really.
And I can't understand why Ikaros was taken away by Mato, since Ikaros performed so well in the previous two rounds while Mato did not. It is the most frustrated result I see today. Then we can only see Nymph represent Sora no Otoshimono in the Regular. Oh, I can say nothing but terrible.
Yes, I see Louise qualified with the simmilar votes as Nagi's. Hm, it's quite obvious that Louise was pulled by Nagi. Though so I shall admit that their performances were awesome.
There are always frustrated things, while on the other side, I can also be comforted by Laura's and Fate's qualification into the Regular. All in all, this is just not too bad for me.

Midst is upset, very upset for real.

Totally agree, but there is little thing we can do though. It reflects the popularity of whom care about ISML. Good thing that Mio got her Tiara last year. (K-ON swept all moe competition last year.) After I saw the low vote of girls who I am rooting for. (Yuno, Misuzu, Kanon girls and Magic girls) He*l, somebody was in top 10 last year and even the previous Tiara winner has to struggle through the prelims. Should ISML mimic KBM or even AST to limit eligibility of certain characters? Like separate ISML to two or three "competition cups"? I don't know. Like I said, there is little we can do, especially the total vote bumped from less than 1000 to over 10000.

Tough luck for Ikaros. My current estimates put her in the top 45 in terms of strength so it's disappointing that she wasn't able to make the main tournament. When you stick 4 Top 45 characters in one pool where only 3 can advance, someone has to get the short end of the stick. Ayase, Yami or Matou failing to make the main tournament would also be a waste. Hopefully, Ikaros will be back next year.

I knew Kotomi was on the borderline of being Top 50 and would need luck to advance to the main tournament. She didn't manage to draw a weak Phase III group. Even though I know she wouldn't do well if she made it, it's still sad to see Kotomi go. Kuroko finally is able to win a close match and it's the one that matters. 13 votes gets her past Elsie and into the regular season. I actually expected Kuroko to win with a tiny bit more room to spare, but a win is a win.

Ui looked good in her match by getting close to Index. I expected Illyasviel to give Fate a bit more trouble but it didn't turn out to be all that close. Not that it really matters but Cecilia Alcott did better than I expected in almost beating Illyasviel.

Homura manages to impress me one more time by being able to beat Ritsu. Unfortunately, the top 3 in this group were just too far ahead for Homura to catch.

Haruna manages to take out C.C.. It's not a huge win but it's by more than I thought she would win by. Once again not something that matters but it's nice to see Nanoha didn't end up last like I thought she would. Hopefully this isn't Nanoha's last official ISML match ever and she comes back next year. Shiina looked pretty bad in this one. Hopefully it's a one time fluke and she'll look better in the regular season. If not, maybe it would have been better for a stronger character to have taken the third spot in this group.

Pool 5 looked pretty normal. Saten did better than expected while Minori did worse. Nothing huge, though.

We've now got our 50 regular season contestants. Loss of Ikaros aside, I would say the preliminaries did a near perfect job of selecting to 50 strongest characters. It'll be interesting to see how everything plays out this year.
A miracle that you believe in when you know it won't happen......... is hope.

Kuroko ? lol

I expected some bad results : Seraphim, Holo and Laura to make it, although I don't like any of them for example, but what happened in Arena 1 is terrible ! Elsie or Kotomi had to make it ! At least one of them ! In the other groups, I'm not very surprised but disappointed anyway...

Well, I should be optimistic : Kanade, Azunyan and Yuki made it on the first Round, so they'll probably do good results this year.

Yeah, don't blame maglor. Blame the voters, since that's always the most sensible solution.

I don't think there needs to be a number of times limit in ISML. We are seeing older characters bow out over time. Some have real staying power (Shana for example), but others are wavering (Fate) or have even fallen (Suigintou). Time will sort stuff out on its own without odd rulings artifically dictacting who can or can't try to be moe for everyone else within the context of the existing system.

have even fallen (Suigintou).
Now that you mentioned it, I remembered 2008, when dolls won 3 necklaces, but after that they didn't even pass to regular, wonder why.

Well, you're not the only one who has to revise their sig. (So much for wishing Queen Tsukasa could make it to the 2011 finals...) I'm just waiting for the new sig slivers to come out. Kinda starting to feel guilty keeping the group pics of Amagami SS and IS (since they're no longer a full hand with Bri-tan bowing out). And I thought they would make good sig sliver material for ISML's in-house artists. (Artisans?)

And after reviewing my nomination form...a painful, Pyrrhic realization: only Kuroneko makes it this far. T_T

Anyway,
Its still hurts, seeing on how true moe characters (like Ikaros and Illya) got beaten by BRS (she ain't even moe!!!! But then again, Vocaloid influence is strong...) and Fate (I would prefer Ui eliminated instead of Illya. Damn you K-ON trollers!!!!)

But still, I still have hope with Ojou-sama in the competition xD (albeit, going down, BIG TIME!!!!. I hate newcomers....)

I'm excited XD There are a number of new entrants who all seem strong (Kanade, Victorique, Eluciwood in particular) alongside the toughest veterans of ISML (Shana, Mikoto, Yuki etc.) Should make for a fantastic seasons race :D

I've been upset at plenty of results so far in prelims but this final round was just more surprising than anything. A bit sad to see Index over Cecilia since Index is by far my least favorite character (in her own show!) and I wish Homura could have slipped past either Nagi or Louise.

I'm a supporter of a lot of the new girls and while it's somewhat bittersweet to see so many veterans pushed out, I think it needs to happen to keep ISML fresh and exciting.

This time we pay 11 lives for 10 defeats.
#1: Elsie's losing is too much to suffer for us, and Mizuki... Finally Mugi get into the game, welcome to the hell.
#2: Kanon and Cecilia cannot help, those shall pay.
#3: Not smart to challenge 2 of the Kugimiya Four.
#4: Nanoha is out! But paying with Kurimu is bad.
#5: Losing Merry is no good. Finally we can see Saten stopped.
#6: Nozomi and Shiori... R.I.P.. TWGOK will have a second play and please gain a seat then.
@Lower one: At least Mafuyu is in my ladder and Kuroko is in 'danger' list.
@ithkero: We often have different result in AST and ISML, like the Sakis and Bamboo Blades. We will have Madoka delayed into mid April and the debuff of time will be weaker.

Now, let's go down to regular business...
