With Sword Art Online over, I've got a few questions regarding character naming and pictures. This shouldn't be an issue for nominations since the nominations from different names will be merged together but it is an issue for the preliminary voting rounds and potentially onward.

I haven't read the light novels yet so if there's relevant information that hasn't been shown in the anime, please put it behind a spoiler warning.

Sword Art Online Anime spoilersShow

From exhibitions we have:
Kirito -> Kirigaya Kazuto
Asuna -> Yūki Asuna
Leafa -> Kirigaya Suguha
Yui -> Yui

Kirigaya Kazuto is close enough to Kirito and he already out right won a tournament so there's not really any reason to change anything for him.

I'm guessing Asuna will keep the name Yūki Asuna since she used her real name in game. Will blue hair pictures be used? Probably not?

Will Suguha continue to use the name "Kirigaya Suguha" with no indication of relation to "Leafa"? Will she get a bracketed name like "Gokō Ruri (Kuroneko)"? Also will she be using real life pictures or will she get Leafa pics similar to Kuroi Mato? She's the only female character who looks significantly different in game compared to real life (other than the small bit of blue hair Asuna) and she shows up a fair bit in both forms. Pixiv stats have 779 Leafa tags and 657 Kirigaya Suguha tags so it seems the Leafa form might be slightly more popular although I'm not that familiar with the overall SAO fanbase.

Yui is Yui. It's not like you can do anything else unless she formally changes her name to something like Kirigaya Yui in the future. It's too bad we'll have to wait a while before we can get a Yui vs Yui match. >_> Maybe it'll happen in a Necklace Showdown.

Potential newcomers:
Silica -> Ayano Keiko (Silica)?
Lizbeth -> Shinozaki Rika (Lizbeth)?
Sachi - > Sachi?

These three have a shot at making preliminaries if not the main tournament (well maybe not for Sachi). Silica's real name was only in the credits of the last episode. Lizbeth's given name was said once by Silica in the last episode and her full name is only in the credits of the last episode. Sachi is an in game name. I don't know if her real name was said in the light novels or not. If so, it was never stated in the anime to my knowledge. Will Silica and Lizbeth get their in game name in a bracket like Kuroneko? Their real names aren't recognizable to anime watchers who haven't read the light novels.

Not that I ever expect him to show up in a match but name and picture choice for Heathcliff/Kayaba Akihiko would probably be a pain to deal with. I haven't read the later SAO novels but I imagine the inevitable "avatar gender does not match the player" will also be fun to deal with in the future.

I am of the opinion that all of them should be bracketed. Asuna is fine because she has the same (first) name anyways, and Kirito/Leafa may be able to get away with it because their real life names were mentioned quite a number of times, and they're also generally just well known because of their screentime, but for Silica and Lizbeth, they each got like all of one or two episodes of screen time and their real life name were basically not shown at all, so they really need their in-game names to even get identified by a significant amount of people.

In any case, the logic of how Kanade and Ruri got their nicknames bracketed, from my understanding, is because they were introduced by their nicknames before their real names were known, with a fairly significant amount of time in between as well. SAO character fit the bill perfectly.

Kanade doesn't have a bracketed name even if she went by Tenshi for the first few episodes. Kuroneko's real name was not revealed in the anime at all before her first ISML match. Preliminaries had been going on for about a month before the OVA episode that revealed it was out.
